Thought some people may be interested in our experience. Me and my wife have now been three times and had another good week. This time however we had to get up early as the ques for the gondola were big, although in saying that it was New Year and so we did expect it. Once we were on the mountain it was fine.

Took some of the family with us this time who were first time skiers and absolutely loved it. The best find of the holiday is a restuarant / hut about three quarters of the way down the ski road which does really cheap beer and nice basic food.
With the skiing out of the way the food in the town was good, we mainly went into the old town and found reasonable food at good prices.
New year was excellent fun and mad with a few of our party a little scared of the fireworks displays up and down the streets. In saying that I think I saw the best firework of my life (about 5m from me)!!
First Gondola is at 8:30, after first few days I got there about 8:15 and was straight on at 8:30. If you leave it untill 9:00 it was an hour easy.
The hut is at the second to last bridge (but suppose you only know this once you're past!!). There is a sign up and it is after the new run peels off to the right and just before it rejoins. The place is on the left. Hope this helps p.s. keep it quite!! Don't want it to get too busy for next time!!

The main problem at the time we went was that you had to go at the end of the day on the way back down cos once you've been the only easy way back up the mountain is up the gondola again, which as I say was generally a 30 - 60 minute que. This shouldn't be a problem once it is quieter.
