Just Back From Bansko

Thought some people may be interested in our experience. Me and my wife have now been three times and had another good week. This time however we had to get up early as the ques for the gondola were big, although in saying that it was New Year and so we did expect it. Once we were on the mountain it was fine.

First few days last week were a bit icy on the runs but plenty open to keep us busy and then the snow started which was just brill. All the runs should be great by now so everyone heading out there soon should enjoy.

Took some of the family with us this time who were first time skiers and absolutely loved it. The best find of the holiday is a restuarant / hut about three quarters of the way down the ski road which does really cheap beer and nice basic food.

With the skiing out of the way the food in the town was good, we mainly went into the old town and found reasonable food at good prices.

New year was excellent fun and mad with a few of our party a little scared of the fireworks displays up and down the streets. In saying that I think I saw the best firework of my life (about 5m from me)!!

All in all another great holiday.

Hope some people find this of interest. Razz

Hi Dan

This little restaurant/hut on the ski road .. was it past the bridge nearer the bottom?

Last year they opened up a new ski run off the ski road which took you around to rejoin the ski road further down .. is it near there?

Very Happy

Hi Dan glad you had a good time, can you give us a little bit more info on how to find that hut on the ski road please as I have not come across it.

how many minutes did you wait, when you came after 9am to the gondola. - when is the first gondola going up? 8:30h?

re: Just Back From Bansko

First Gondola is at 8:30, after first few days I got there about 8:15 and was straight on at 8:30. If you leave it untill 9:00 it was an hour easy.

The hut is at the second to last bridge (but suppose you only know this once you're past!!). There is a sign up and it is after the new run peels off to the right and just before it rejoins. The place is on the left. Hope this helps p.s. keep it quite!! Don't want it to get too busy for next time!!

The main problem at the time we went was that you had to go at the end of the day on the way back down cos once you've been the only easy way back up the mountain is up the gondola again, which as I say was generally a 30 - 60 minute que. This shouldn't be a problem once it is quieter.

re: Just Back From Bansko

Thanks Daniel

I think I know where you mean

Only trouble is I only use the ski road at the end of the day and usually skied all the way to Happy End Bar after dumping our skis for the day ...

Did you say it was reasonably priced though?
