Just back from Bansko

Hi All,

I am just back from Bansko and had to write a posting to tell everyone how fantastic it was Razz

We were originally staying in the Hotel Karol - STAY AWAY FROM HERE!!! It was dirty, with uncomfortable beds, nowhere to store ski and snowboard equipment, the curtains were see through with the lights on so we had to get dressed in the bathroom or in the dark. We were originally staying in the Hotel Karol - STAY AWAY FROM HERE!!! It was dirty, with uncomfortable beds, nowhere to store ski and snowboard equipment, the curtains were see through with the lights on so we had to get dressed in the bathroom or in the dark. It was not a 3 Star - even making allowances for the different Bulgarian standards.

We upgraded to the Strazhite, which was lovely - clean and warm with a swimming pool and sauna.

The town of Bansko itself is beautiful with lots of character and loads of little Mexhanas for eating and Booze!

I cannont praise the Ski instructors enough - Vesi our instructor went out of her way to make sure we had a great time by taking us out in the evenings to places that we would never have found without her. The level of tuition was better than I have had in France but most of all everyone in the group enjoyed themselves.

The new gondola and ski lifts were all working when we were there. We did not have to queue for the lifts at all and the pistes were in great condition.

All in all a great holiday we will be returning next year Razz

Hi YT

I am very jealous!!

The Hotel Bansko if I remember correctly is further away from the piste than the other hotels but a bus runs every 20 minutes during the day to the gondola station and back again during the afternoon. If you have to wait for it, there is a little cafe where you can sit and drink hot chocolates (and Brandies) while you wait. It think that it is nearer to the centre of the town than where we were which is good news if you are stumbling home in the early hours!

Ski equipment is excellent (not that I am an expert on these matters) but it was all brand new for this season so had only been used for a month when we arrived.

The food was as you would expect! In the hotel it wasn't gormet but it was hot (generally!) and tasty. Breakfast was sausages, eggs, cereal and toast. Evening meal was salads, meat and rice. It was absolutely fine after a hard day on the slopes if you could not be bothered to put your coat on and venture out.

Eating out is very cheap. One evening 13 of us went out and ate and drank heartily for £40 for all of us (hard to believe I know!) The food in the Mexhanas was much better than the hotel, lots of barbequed meat, salads and gouhlash soup.

As for shopping for anything else - we couldn't drag ourselves from the slopes or the Mexhanas for long enough!!

You will have a fantastic holiday, you lucky things!

Helen,

Took a long time deciding where to go in Bulgaria, but Bansko looks excellent, and cannot wait....

Sounds like you had a great holiday, which is good news and looking forward to sampling the Bulgaria hospitality and way of life. I enjoy skiing and will be looking to be on the slopes as much as possible.

13 of you for that price, all I can say is WOW!

Just me and my girlfriend going, will be away for our first anniversary so that makes it extra special
