As promised, report of holiday!
Group of 8 of us went over between 3rd Jan till the 10th.
Snow conditions are very poor. Resort badly needs at least a good 12 inches to make a decent base. Red runs down from the top of the 4-man chair lift are very icy.
Red and black runs down from the top of the gondola are filled with a lot of stones / rocks and bushes. I only snow boarded for two days, first and last, as I put my back out on the second day there. My snowboard looks like I have been ...

Red and black runs down from the top of the gondola are filled with a lot of stones / rocks and bushes. I only snow boarded for two days, first and last, as I put my back out on the second day there. My snowboard looks like I have been boarding on a tarmac road!
The very top runs accessed via the Gondola are CLOSED to snowboarders. Apparently, a snowboarder crashed into a small child causing some injury. The draglifts servicing these runs are only open to skiers. This to me seems a bit of a "knee jerk" reaction. What happens if a skier causes an accident to a snowboarder on the runs in front of the Rila? Are they going to ban skiers from those runs?
We booked 4 twin rooms, which when we arrived were not available so we were moved to 4 studio rooms on the 4th floor in the Rila hotel. Thankfully, "Funkys 24Hr Bar" played drum and base music most nights, which I could listen to. They even played the film "Kill Bill", which again I could listen to during the night. Oh, by the way, this is with me already wearing earplugs.....

Food in the Rila was at best luke warm, but as some of us have been before we knew what to expect. Plenty of cheap places to eat out, Katy's Steak house, Mama Mia's Franco's Pizza to name a few of the good ones.
For the first timers, we hired snowboards from the "ski shack", whilst the boards were "OK" (Huge improvement on the Rila equipment) the bindings were of very poor and old quality. It became tiring and a struggle for they guys that were learning, just to do their bindings up.
On the whole, everyone had a very good time with many people wanting to come back. Bobbie, snowboard instructor from the Samokov, was excellent for the 6 guys who were learning. Myself and a friend, who did not need the lessons, won’t be going back until the slopes are in place to accommodate snowboarding.
These are my honest opinions and I'm not wishing to cause offence to anyone

When we went in Feb last year I think we picked Borovets because they appear to have more runs then Pamporovo, but this year with the closure of the one man chair lift the snowboarders lost out big time.
It is concerning re the banning of the slopes to snowboarders. Perhaps they should have some ski patrols going up and down the slopes to look out for dangerous skiers and boarders. I had a couple of skiers shouting at me, in some language, to "watch out" or something along ...

We will go again, so long as the runs / slopes are in place for boarders. Who knows, we might even see you in pamps next year!

Top of the 4man chair lift to top of the 1man chair lift is not hikeable unless you run marathons on a daily basis! Skidoo taxi will take you to the top (once) for 100 leva, around 35 pounds.re: Just back from Borovets

I was there over new year and am now heading to the french alps in Feb, i will not be going to Borovets again

Mike FI would go back to borovets, once they get there act sorted out, over the slopes / runs etc.

I have also just returned from Borovets. On the whole I agree with Buck, although I did not witness the banning of Snowboarders from the top of the Gondola. I am a snowboarder and we were using the top drag lifts and the red run down from the top up until Friday and none of the lift operators said to us at any point that we were not allowed on runs. It is a shame that they were no allowed to use these runs as these had, in general, the best coverage of snow with few rocks showing. ...

If you are off to Borovets then have fun, is in general a good resort although very busy with beginners.
