Just got back from Bansko

Hi All,

I have just got back from Bansko. I was only there for 3 days- sorting out my apartment now that it is finished.
Here are a few pointers

1. Prices are still very cheap 1-2 levs for the local beer. 3-4 levs for branded stuff like stella. Booze Booze

2. Eating out is still cheap meal for 2 including wine 40 levs

3. I did not ski as did not have the time. I did go up the main gondala to have a look at the lucky sod who were there to ski. I was only up there for 20 mins, but ...

3. I did not ski as did not have the time. I did go up the main gondala to have a look at the lucky sod who were there to ski. I was only up there for 20 mins, but every where was white. i am by no means a ski expert, but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Aparentlty the runs are a bit icy, but it looked great to me.

4. We flew wizz air from luton. This was my first experience of wizz, but I can confirm that they are absolutely fine. No horror stories at all. Just like easyjet but the staff wear blue and purple instead of orange.

5. Building work is still everywhere in bansko. The mayor has stopped lorries from bringing building material for the season, but if developers have the materials on site they can carry on building. My advice is to ignore the builder and focus on the beer, food and skiing. The center is still lovely and not effected by the building works.

6. The atms near the gondala would not give me cash, but the 3 other atms i found near the town center square all worked fine.

7. No snow in the town

8. Loads of new ski related shops since i was there last in april 2006.

Any questions????????? Remember I did not ski so I cant answer ski related questions

Cheers

re: Just got back from Bansko

Wad,

Baggage restrictions were as per most airlines
20kg in one bag for the hold.
I then took my mid sized rucksack for cabin baggage
People were taking ski boot bags on board as cabin baggage.

Donkey,

The guiness hotel is very impressive looking (5star). It is 300 yards from the gondola, Great position for skiing. It is surrounded by building works, as is the norm, but if I were stopping there it would not bother me. 10min stroll into town center. It is positioned on the ...

Donkey,

The guiness hotel is very impressive looking (5star). It is 300 yards from the gondola, Great position for skiing. It is surrounded by building works, as is the norm, but if I were stopping there it would not bother me. 10min stroll into town center. It is positioned on the opposite side of the river to the town, but that should not be a problem. Overall it looked very good.

Thanks for your posting, will be flying from luton with wizzair also on 30th Jan, had never heard of them before so was a bit anxious. Do you get meals on board or is it best to take loads of chocolate?

Mandy

wizz air do not serve traditional airline meals. they do come round with a trolley with drinks and snack on it. You can buy off the trolley as it goes buy. To save the hassle, just eat in the departure lounge, or as you say stock up on chocs Very Happy

Heath,

Sorry mate, but I am by know means an expert on bansko, I have only been twice. I am afraid I do not know this hotel. i only know about 3 hotels but I have not come across the one you mentioned. Sorry I cant help ...

re: Just got back from Bansko

Thanks Smag - at least your apartment is ready - we have to wait till Dec next yr - Another airline for folks making their own travel arrangements is Hemus Airlines out of Heathrow - when we went on long weekend (inspection trip) last Nov we flew Bulgarian Airlines, no problem just v. warm on board and tight for legroom, have been told Hemus better. Estate Agent also told us the BGs were protecting their own national airlines, but maybe only a matter of time before Easyjet get their route ...
