Any one have any ideas on a suitable knee brace for my partner. She dislocated it once and it could do with some support.
We have had a look but to be honest we are not to sure on what if any to get. Even the Doctors didn't have a clue.
She is going to try boarding as with skis I can see there being a bit of a issue with here legs going in different directions
York Sports are excellent. Also ensure you tell her insurance company she has a problem with here knee, just incase of a accident. It doesn't pay to cheat.
Hi Martin, my wife is a senior Orthotist at Oldham Hospital and she has said that an Ossur CTi ligament brace is what your partner should be looking at, They do a sports version that can have a knee impact cup fitted to protect the knee cap too, which tends to get dropped on a lot with boarding.
This type of brace does require fitting by a professional.

Thank you ever so much for the info on the brace. I have past on the info to Helen and if she needs any help I will mail you.
Many thanks.
Snow plough ,good point about the insurance ,I had over looked that. cheers.
I forgot to mention that there is also an "off the shelf" brace you can buy with needing it to be fitted professionally and it's cheaper, although it does not have the knee cap protection.
It is the Ossur BioSkin Gladiator http://www.ossur.co.uk/Products/kneebraces/kneesupports/bioskin_gladiator

Hi Pete
I have had a look at the off the shelf braces and there's 2 types, Is there a reason why ?
These look similar to the ones we had in mind, and will probably go with something along these lines.
Thanks
Martin
Hi Martin,
One of the types (XT) is a pull-on brace while the other (DT) has a front opening and is secured with velcro. The pull-on types tend to roll down in use, whereas the front opening ones stay in place better.
Are you going to Borovets? We are there for a week starting 19th Jan.
Regards
Pete
Ponty Paul will be the best for this and will be on here soon to answer you! His wife Cezza has had a bad knee for a long time and has just recoverd from an operation on it. She wears a knee brace and will be able to advise.
I use a Mueller wrap around knee brace with hinge supports. If you look in physio room it is in there at £49-99. I find the beauty of a wrap around is that at the end of the day you can remove it if you are having an apre-ski drink without having to take your boots and gear off thus allowing the knee to relax and breath. Have been using a knee brace for at least 5 years now without a problem. That is until my mate decides to help someone else who has hurt their knee while we are half way up ...
