Posted a few times here (and yes I own 2 places there so you might say I have a Vested interest in bigging it up).
Ive been to Bansko 3 times now & going again in April first time for the winter period. I have also been to Sunny beach.
For those here who say its expensive quite frankly Im shocked as every meal Ive had out there with many drinks has been very cheap.When I go to a country I eat the local food - somethings I like others not so much but so far Ive enjoyed all the meals ...

One thing I found LOL funny was in Sunny Beach there is 1 Mc Donalds and the type of person queing for a Big Mac didnt leave much to the imagination - also I was shocked to see that the price of a Big Mac was more than the cost that evening for a meal for 2 ...
I dont think anyone can disagree with the high levels of building that has gone on and still is & the poor /dangerous conditions of some foot paths. I do however thing the progress of the Roads is incredible they build at a rate within a week xsome road sections are totally finished they bus in so many workers and jus get on with the job unline the UK where its goes on & on & on.
Clearly as I have bought there I will be going there every summer & Winter (why else buy there). I didnt buy withou visiting the place first but quite a few others certainly have (which IMHO is a crazy investment decision). I bought one place near the town centre which we'd use in the winter mainly and another in a golf resort. Now I play golf so I will use those facilities and the other things. But more to the point is in the summer its really plesant relaxing many outdoor pools and there is lots to see & do.
Before visiting Bulgaria I didnt really know anything about its history bar it being an x comunist state.
I dont think places like Bansko have the scene yet for big pub crawls (and more the better for it). just many nice old fashioned Mehanas and many with live music.

Agree that there are major expectation gaps but also a serious lack of tolerence, thus the negativity.

I think for some people there is still an expectation of the prices from 10 years ago - some people I met last year had brought £100 spends for a week - which is very unrealistic!
There is still good value to be had and lots of great holidays, mostly it is as good as you make it which means that if you are a very negative person always looking for faults and things to complain about you will find them - just like anywhere else in the world.
