A new Brit disease seems to have taken hold of the place - not binge drinking or hooliganism, but a whole new breed of anti-social behaviour that it putting our great country to shame. The rise of the uber nerd! Bars are beginning to fill with people crouched over laptops on facebook or MSN, telling people what a great time they are having whilst nursing a solitary pint for an hour and not talking to anybody else.
It is a sad enditement of our society that people are forgetting that the idea of a skiing holiday is to be active and involved, not lose yourselves in cyber-space.
The worst bit is the looks that are starting to happen from the locals. They don't think it's clever, they just think it's a bit weird. Mark my words, free wi-fi will end soon because these social recluses don't spend enough money at the bar.
The internet is great - I'm on it now, but there is a time and a place. If you are thinking of taking your laptop on holiday for any othet reason than keeping the kids amused, please think again!
Secondly, your post really made me smile!! Especially about the comment that free WiFi will end
It is a true indication of how we are today - everything at the tip of our fingers, instant communication. I watch the Alpina webcam and most nights there is someone in there poring over a laptop.
Sign of the times I guess but yes I do agree - rather unsociable too!!
My 17yo daughter will be taking hers, not just so she can facebook her friends back home but because she has a fair bit of A level work to do over half term!
And she will not be taking it into any bars with her LOL!
I take mine, but it doesn't leave the hotel bedroom, just gets used to download images from cameras and occasionally listen to itunes, I don't even bother to check emails, not enough hours in the day on holiday
I turn my mobile on for about 5 minutes in the evening to check for text messages, I dont even want to know what is going on in the uk, im on holiday for gods sake
