Brian you lazy so and so ;-). You have an internet connection like me. The Post office is currently offering 2.1 lev per pound. Not very good compared to last year's 2.5ish. People will tell you to take sterling into Bulgaria and exchange locally for a better rate. A lot of people don't bother because they like to have everything 'organised' and 'sorted-out' before they go on holiday. In case of delays or diversions at the Bulgaria end you'll probably want some lev to buy snacks while ...

re: Lev or euro

last year the rate was no-where near 2.5.. last year it was less than 2 in the uk and you could get 2.08 in resort... i always change in resort and always get 5-10% better rate than in uk.

re: Lev or euro

The everyday currency used in Bulgaria is the Lev. Euros are used for things like property purchase. They may be used in expensive designer shops in Sofia (I don't know). If small local shops in the ski resorts say they accept Euros, they will - but they're likely to use a very bad exchange rate. It's always best to use the local currency.

re: Lev or euro

If you have got a Nationwaide flex account, get money out at the cash machine. last year got 2.01 at Thomas Cook and 2.28 locally. Do not use the local money exchange places as hidden cost/misleading info on exchaneg rates.

re: Lev or euro

what do you mean about nationwide? they still give the same great rates-we use them everytime in BG (about 5 times ayear) and the rates are about the best you can get-with no charges

re: Lev or euro

Benson is correct.

I am with Nationwide and they do not charge for ATM withdrawal/commission etc.
