A crowd of us are going to Borovets on Saturday 28th for a week, ages ranging from 21 - 65. We are staying at the Lion hotel and wondered if anyone can give us some feedback on the hotel, food and the location.
We have not skied in Bulgaria before. We did do Romania about 14 yrs ago, so it must be better than that..
the lion is one of the better hotels in the resort. It is a little bit outside the centre but it has a regular shuttle bus. It is a good choice for Borovets as it is much nicer to be outside the centre. The hotel has a pool and sauna and I believe the food is good compared to other places. They have a section for the half board people and a separate ala carte restaurant
Thanks for the review. We are not expecting the same quality as Austria/Italy etc because we haven't paid their prices, and reading many reviews both good and bad for Borovets, will go with an open mind. None of us are serious skiers (especially us older ones), we will make our own fun etc there are 15 of us and we are really looking forward to the experience of Bulgaria.
Hi Pauline, me and hubby on way out on 28th staying at Lion too. It's our second stay there, you'll love the hotel. Nice quiet location, bar has a good atmosphere, rooms are more than adequate, very comfortable. Food - had no problem last time, good brekkie and we always found soemthing to please for dinner.
We just got back from Borovets Saturday and can thoroughly recommend the resort. The food at the Hotel Lion was more than adequate and the location was ideal.
We ate at lunchtime mostly near the nursery slopes in the pizza cafe there and found the staff very friendly and food good.
No rip offs to report and a good time was had by all.
It snowed the Friday before we came home, and there was and still is plenty of snow.
For the money, it was good value and would certainly go again.
Hi Pauline, we were at Lion same time as you, were you the group with quite a few adults and a young baby? If so, we were sat with you waiting for coaches on Saturday. Me and hubby, two short mancunians!
Glad you enjoyed it, we did, second time to same hotel and would recommend to anyone, had a turkish bath in the spa on Friday, was soooo good.
Yes that was us 14 adults and small baby. Had a fantastic time. Us olds skied only in the mornings and then kept Mum and baby company during the afternoon, while the youngsters age 21-42 skiied all day and some even skiied on the Saturday, getting back just in time to get on the coach, don't know where they get their energy.
I had a pedicure on my aching feet - heaven for only 20 lev...... usually costs me £29 at my health club.... will definately go again and stay at the same hotel.
