I want the snow as much as all of us, but looking at the various weather models (GFS/EWCMF/Met Office etc), there is little or NO sign of snow up to Dec 20. The reason is there is a large area of high pressure over the Eastern part of Europe, and it refuses to budge. This is why we are having such cr**py weather here in UK. I don't want to sound like a doom and gloom merchant, just stating the facts. The best chance the resorts have at the mo is to make snow if and when it is cold enough ...
The best chance the resorts have at the mo is to make snow if and when it is cold enough (which is what they have been doing a little of in Bansko). Things may well change, but in the foreseeable (meterologically speaking)-there is no snow. If I see signs of change I will post
27th Jan will be good for snow as the HP would have moved on by then and several big dumps of the white stuff would have fallen by then. End of Jan and Feb are always good times to go skiing as you are almost guaranteed to have snow. I always go skiing at that time and have never had anything other than perfect skiing conditions in Bansko.
What is even more frustrating is that the entire western and central alps are going to have HUGE snowfalls from Wednesday through to Sunday with many resorts getting as much as 68cm at town level, whereas, Bulgaria as with the rest of eastern europe are green, dry and not forecasted to get snow until about xmas time. Of course, this can all change if a rogue LP system pushes the current HP system further out resulting in some much needed snow!
These are very worrying times at the moment!
