Haven't been on here before but had it recommended to me. Literally just got back from Borovets (about 10 minutes ago in fact) and thought that posting a quick message on here was worth a shot. I lost a CASIO EXILIM (3.2 megapixel) camera yesterday afternoon - at a guess either on the gondola or somewhere between the Rila hotel ski hire and the chalets that are part of the Iglika hotel opposite. If anyone has picked this up (yes, I know it's a very long shot!!) then please please ...
Hi all,
Haven't been on here before but had it recommended to me. If anyone has picked this up (yes, I know it's a very long shot!!) then please please could you drop me an email: [email protected]
And to anyone else who came back today; I probably saw you around the resort at some point so I hope you had fun!! Had a great time although I do think I've dislocated my thumb or something....all part of it I guess!!
The trip was great thanks! Really enjoyed it, especially a lovely green run that ran from pretty much the very top of the mountain to the bottom. At points it really was like skiing through Narnia - although it was a bit trickier when it hadn't snowed for a couple of days and it got pretty icy.
The food was a bit hit and miss, I didn't have a bad meal but a couple of the people I was with did. I would recommend 'The Blue' (up the street behind the Rila hotel), the fish and chips is good! ...

The food was a bit hit and miss, I didn't have a bad meal but a couple of the people I was with did. I would recommend 'The Blue' (up the street behind the Rila hotel), the fish and chips is good! Seriously though, they were really nice there and after persuading us to come in (we were headed up to Franco's pizza), we had a great meal. We went back 2 days later, were remembered and given free drinks and shots; never a bad thing!!
Advice....hmmm, avoid the man who stands outside his restaurant all day saying "Asda Price, cheap as chips"!! One thing I would say that is to anyone who heads up ski lift Rila 1 to do the green run - be prepared to do some serious poling/walking (ski/board depending), if you're not going very fast. I learnt this the hard way when I was testing snowboarding; it really does get frustrating having to take the board off and put it on again.
We had very good snow - it snowed almost solidly for the first couple of days, bits here and there and heavy snowfall again last night. We didn't really have any clear sky days - but at the end of the day I would rather have snow than sun!!
That's all I can think of for now, but I'll try and keep an eye on here!
Garry - I completely agree! The injury is minor and just showed that I was definitely pretending I was better than I was bombing it down a red run with dodgy vision at night!
Pete - I don't think I'll find the camera, but hey it's worth a try! Luckily the rest of my group have absolutely loads of photos and videos and since I was planning to buy a new camera anyway, I guess I shouldn't think about it too much!
Thanks. This will be my second time this year. I went in january too! We had clear blue skys and sunshine. But by end of week the snow was wearing thin. I too would rather have grey skys and snow, rather sun and no snow!!
