Mobile Sim card

Hi all, glad it's snowing again.
Im coming out with step daughter, my partner is staying in UK.
Is it worth getting a local sim for my mobile for making calls back to the uk. If so is there somewhere in Borovets to do this.

You used to be able to get a local sim card from several places in Borovets. However, recent new laws mean that every new sim now has to be registered. I'm not sure whether this is possible in any shops in Borovets.
maybe someone at the resort can answer this?

Tourist info did get some but have pretty much sold out - they are getting some more in though.

Hi ya,

Not sure about availability of them in Borovets. Sometimes they run out but otherwise have them in the supermarkets. They are approx 15lev and normally about 5mins of chat and then you top them up by buying vouchers. You do not have to register the Sims, simply buy them over the counter and they don't take any details etc. If there is none there then you will need to get down to one of the supermarkets in Samokov - on main road - T-Market, Bila

if ur partner and u both use the 02 uk network,
this is a cheap way to keep in touch

Pay 02 £10.00 for a service called My Travel Europe.
on your phone

it is then free for you to recieve all incoming calls from the uk in Bulgaria.
if your partner has free minutes on her uk mobile phone in the uk she can call u 4 free .if ur not on o2 it is worth getting 2 02 sims cards for this purpose only

i use this system all the time when i am abroad

We usually skype home. Free for both parties

Kas !! since the 1st of january you do have to register the sim cards, If you have an old one you must register before 1/4 or you will lose any credit on it.

Skype is great for phoning home but I want to be able to contact my husband easily when we are skiing - we inevitably get split up with the children wanting to do different things.
The o2 travel thing sounds interesting. So if you both have free minutes on your phone is it then free to phone each other? How do you get free minutes on a PAYG card?

It is not usefull to call home, this is really expensive. It is a good chance to stay in contact via sms just 0,23 lev, or be called. So from germany we payed arround 0,16€ a minute with a preselection.
But more than 1 lev per minute from mobile in bg home.
Better use normal phone cards.

it is only free in bg torecieve calls on the 02 network if you pay the 10 pounds fee. but it costs 25p per min to make calls so if u r both in bg it is no good to you.
