As the funny season draws near, the usual manic posts on where to get the best exchange rate start to arrive. Posts such as 'I got 2.80 at The Halifax' or 'Marks are offering 2.82'. But think about it for a minute.
Take an average exchange rate of say 2.72. That means there are 272 stostinkies to the pound sterling. Based on that rate, each stostinki would be worth 0.36 of a penny. So if you were to then get an extra 10 stostinkies to the pound (282) that would get you 3.6p more per pound ...

Over £50 you would nett £1.80 more.
Hardly worth running all over town for is it? And as Bulgaria is so cheap anyway, I don't really see the point.
I hear you get 2.90 from a man you meet on the street if you nod twice blink once spin round and stick your tongue out. Is this true? Need to know as I am goin to Bansko in March and that extra £1.80 would buy a couple of pints
I thought this was suppose to be a board for people to post good advice on, I for one did post a message with a question about exchanging currency because I really was unsure, I'm not penny pinching, and if I did loose abit here and there so be it, I just thought a question like that maybe best answered on a Bulgarian discussion site.
Bad jokes are good too, god knows everybody else does it!
I am now a 6yr veteran of Borovets and was also unsure about the rate etc before I went initially, now i just get £100 worth from M&S and sort the rest when I am there - nothing to worry about at all.
Waiting till you get there and endlessly shopping about is really like driving 50 miles to save 1p per litre on fuel!
These days you dont need to roam all over town, just use the internet to find the best rate.
Pete is right in what he says though for every £200 u will only make an extra 9 levs from say an exchange rate of 2.72 and 2.77.
Usually Travelex online offer a good rate if you reserve online and pick it up at the airport when you travel and no hastle to drive about! Although you must order 48 hrs before you depart!
Pete, im still waiting for you to post something that i can disagree with! good shout about this money changing stuff.
of the three times i have been to pamps, there really is NO big difference whether you change your money here before you go, or if you change it with your porter, taxi driver, barman, hotel receptionist, cigarette seller etc....
less than 2 months to go and i am so excited i could wee
Ah Dougie those where the days changing money with your hotel Porter. Last January I did not get asked once!!!! As opposed to when I first went in 98 everytime I saw a Porter the imortal words rang out "Change money?"
