Does anyone know the actual cost here in Bulgaria to set the orphanage up with a solar power system,
That way for the next 30years minimum they will not have to pay for electricity and will always have hot water. I got an estimate for my house which was 17, 000 levs.
this way the money allocated for such fuel bills could be re directed into something else of use, such as clothes, extra staff and food.
This is something my daughter in California is looking into for me. She has also been in contact with Patagonia (http://www.patagonia.com/usa/patagonia.go?assetid=10156) making enquiries for the Orphanage.
I think thats a really good idea. The obvious advantage is that it gets paid for, put in and there it is. My understanding of solar systems is that they are very reliable and simple to maintain.
If a fund went solely to the supplying of a system through say a UK company then you could probably also limit the opportunity for corruption in Bg too.

I dont want to court a deletion but if you say 17,000 levs as a rough guide then thats about £6500 which is hardly hugely expensive, is far less than than other figures already mentioned on this 'discussion' forum, and is a figure almost already achieved by those kind enough to have donated already.
Should be worth someone looking into I think,
Where have you got your 'quote' from Mr Jeffrey.
Typically, Active Solar Heating systems installed into existing households are priced in the range of £4,000 (depending on the size of house, type of collector, etc.).
To install it in a place the size of the Orphanage I would imagine was much more.
however this is not a house it is a 2500 square metre building that may soon house 150 children, and we have looked into this option and it would mean raising further funding. As we have said many time there is no corruption how and where these will be spent. also if you think that there is no corruption in the UK you are very wrong. I know of many good people in Bulgaria and in the UK and i know of just as many corrupt people in both countries.
I know there is corruption in both but just the other day there were discussions on the board re the safety of monies donated. And you are right there are good and bad people in both countries. However, to be honest I know which country I would rather have running an orphanage given the choice and given your graphic descriptions of a Bulgarian one. But thats not the debate.
Solar heating is a good suggestion is all I was saying, if youve looked into it then so be it.

Peter the 'quote', do you mean the 17000 lev? Michelle said that. If you mean the figures already mentioned its the 30000euro needed at the moment.
Jeffrey - 17,000 is for a house not a large institution. There are many other things to be done such as insulation, window replacements and probably a lot of pipework too. I sure as Amanda is at the coalface she will consider all cost-effective options when the spend time comes.
