A few discussions about this on others board but not mentioned on here SO.... while we all moan about ski conditions, prices etc - bear a thought for this poor lad...
OUCH, WITH A CAPITAL OUCH !!
To be honest though I think he should of had a LARGE hot chocolate and brandy before tackling anything that steep at those speeds !!
Oh Dear, I really wish i hadn't watched that replay, i was sick to my stomach. I think that this may have ended his skiing for a long time, my heart goes out to him.
Matthias Lanzinger, the Austrian skier, is to have his left leg amputated following a horrific fall in a World Cup race in Norway on Sunday.
Doctors treating the 27-year-old announced they had no alternative but to remove the leg below the knee, after they were unable to re-establish circulation to his foot.
Because when you ski at that speed you have to have the boots very tight to the skis or they'll come off under the pressure you put on them in the jumps and high speed carving. nasty.
This is my husband last March in Bansko. He didn't mean to do this as it was only his second time skiing in 25 years! www.youtube.com/watch?v=hN05h9FpW5w
Everyone is talking about the snow conditions and this YouTube clip was Bansko end of March last year. Nine of us going again from 23-31 March so fingers crossed we get some snow. Taking the head cam again this year so should get some more great footage
