Sorry Val, the post was never intended at those who go to holiday, my sister goes out at least twice a year (BA employee) and loves it, it was making the point that to explore the off-piste possibilities of most resorts is very monitored and in some cases banned because of the risk that the area may be sued if an individual hurts themselves (land of the lawyer)...

I must admit I didn't pick up on the e-mail address of these 2 postings. You're on the ball as usual. As I don't ski off piste I probably wouldn't have worried about the same things as you in the US. Its all horses for courses at the end of the day.
