New gondola in Bansko

Hi,
I've heard all about the proposed expansion of Bansko ski area, but no one knows the proposed siting for the new gondola? Surely somebody must have a clue about its whereabouts.........

apparently this is top secre at the moment. A person local to Bansko told me that it is being kept a secret because one the news is out then flats being built will flood that area and the prices etc.

There are some 3 or 4 proposed places - all agreed I believe - but not to be announced yet. Gondola due to open in 2008.

I had heard that the new gondola will follow the path of the present one. It is due to be started June July this year and to open 2007.It will begin in the car park of present gondola and they will build an under ground car park to replace the present one.

Definitely that is not what I heard Cathy so it will be interesting to see what they do do. That sort of makes sense though as they will need to keep the start point central to the town and hotels etc and of course the path is already clear up the mountain on that route. We will see.

My ski instructor says that it is a good bet that it will be along side the existing gondola.

I was (quietly) told the same thing in Bansko last week. It's not a done deal but odds on. John.

The plans for the Oympic bid show the the position where Cathy said roughly where the present car park is.
It wont carry as many people per hour as the existing one.

The same report show Bansko getting the blue ribband down hill races if Bulgaria is successful with its bid.

More additional runs are to be put in bring it on !!!!!!!geoff

According to latest figures Bansko are going to win it and Eddie the Eagle and myself are doing the simulated ski jump.

Thats what I am in training for next week.

Best of luck Dave but did anyone mention that the simulated ski jump is to be altered so both of you have to share one set of ski's.
