Taihape, ahh gumboot territory.
Passed throu there many a times on the way up to Turoa ski field.My husband loved the area as he rode a Ducati and from Taihape to Bulls the road was 16Okmh with me on the back!!!.Lovely sweeping corners.
Did you know that that section experienced the worst motor vehicle fatalities in the whole of NZ?.They have now cut alot of the corners out.Also passed throu there for the motorbike rally held at Mt Ruapehu called the "cold kiwi".

Yup, I knew that. My brother is a fireman at Taihape so has been to many an accident between Taihape and Waioru. After I left school I moved to Taupo so know the road like the back of my hand after many trips back home.Haven't heard anybody talk about the cold kiwi for a long time. Man those were the days eh.
