Numb feet - new boots

Hi, looking for some advice, we went dry slope skiing last night to test out my boots again (3rd time) and my feet were completely numb in about 15 minutes. We spoke to one of the instructors who said this was normal and that if a boot doesn't cause numbness then it doesn't fit right?

Is this right? I bought boots cos the first time I went skiing (long weekend) I had a nightmare with hire boots and so this time I decided to buy my own - even put superfeet into them. The last thing I ...

That is the biggest load of rubbish out. Your feet should never go numb, it means the boots are too tight. Have you adjusted the buckles at all? If you still have problems go back to where you bought them. They may be able to blow the shells a bit.

Due to over excitement I've been stomping around the house in mine and the same thing has happened to me although it didn't on the slopes last season so if anyone out there has any helpful advice I'd appreciate it too!

I bought some boots last year and for the first three days they were killing me but once they wore in they were fine, but would be interested to hear about having the shells blown ( is that possible with all new boots), Also interested to know what its like skiing on the dry slopes coz i'm thinking of popping over to sheffield with my kids to brush up a bit before heading out to bansko.( Have been to the xscape slopes but it gets a bit pricey when im paying for four people)

Not a very nice surface really. Good for learning on to get the basics but otherwise I wouldn't be too keen. If do go and you fall NEVER NEVER grab the matting. You will end up with broken fingers with the friction.

The slope last night was quite sticky - I think some people have compared skiing on dry slope to skiing on gravel which may be a bit harsh. It was great fun last week with some frost as you could get some speed going. I think it is a bit harder on the legs than skiing on snow as it can feel a bit juddery but it has been really useful in remebering the skills I learnt last time.

I did have my shells blown a little bit after the first time I tested them - they just heat them up and stretch them a bit. I am going to go back to the shop tomorrow to have a talk to them about them. Thanks Val.

I guess I am just going to try wearing and wearing them. I don't know whether it was becuase of the vibration of going down the dry slope (snow plough queen that I am).

re: Numb feet - new boots

check out the question I posed on burning soles this week, there is a lot of good advice on there, but one of the main ones could be the socks you are wearing are too thick, go for something like falke ski socks - if your boots are a perfect fit you do not need thick socks

If anyone is considering buying boots (which i would strongly recommend as the hire ones are poo) then may i suggest you buy them out in bulgaria as i bought a pair of top of the line salomon boots last year and paid only a fraction of the rrp. and they are the geniune boots, no fakes! cant wait to see the slopes of borovets again!! and 101 cocktails!! Booze
