Opening dates?

Hey Folks,

Just wondering if anyone new the official opening date for Borovets this season?? I heard a rumour of Xmas Day! Can anyone confirm this for me??

official date is 23rd dec, but the slopes will be open befroe as long as there is snow

Probably gonna be spending a season there so need to plan etc.

So do they use the snow cannons from this date if there's no snow? as we get to the rila on the night of 23rd Dec

No they will not Will.

Snow cannons are few and far between in Bulgaria and even where there are cannons they can only be used at certain temps. Cannons blow fine droplets of water into the air that freeze and drop as snow. Anything less than -3 and the water does not freeze to form snow. Anything more than -10 and it falls as ice.

Great site, I have learnt so much about skiing in Bulgaria from it, just looking forward to 23rd Dec to experience the atmosphere.
