Yes we were very unlucky I do understand but when your in an airport and you call a your tour operators and ask what's going to happen next you at least would like some help. They couldn't tell us. Those who had connecting flights, Balkan did not offer any advise. After all, they were who we booked our holiday with.

Would be interested IMT who you use independantly?

We travelled 2 seasons ago to Borovets independantly. Booked our flights with BA as soon as they were released and then booked the Hotel Alpin directly with them. The main problem then was ski pass, lessons etc as we had booked independantly this was looking like we would have to book in resort. However I remembered the the kids had used the Albena Ski School when they were in the Inghams kindergarten so we used them. Got a great price - cheaper still than with the Tour ...

We have to go in half term so we did save money but it would have been touch and go had we gone in term time. Our Bulgarian friend picked us up from the airport but all the hotels will do this for you. The main problem is that you need to book flights early to get a good price but the Bulgarian Hotels won't let you book with them until the summer. I think as the resorts get busier though this will change.

Another point re: booking independantly -If we had booked accommodation through BulgariaSki it would have been a little cheaper but I managed to book hotel direct in May and they culdn't get me a price at theat time - having already booked a flight I was anxious to have somewhere to stay!

I really hope this helps

Ask if you would like to know more

Thanks Elie,

We are looking to go December 2006, some of are group have already booked to go in Feb 2006 with Balkan again and are not looking forward to travelling with them again but as its only six weeks away don't really have much choice.
Is Borovets a very big resort?
What's the price of the ski passes in the resort (we have our own ski and boots and don't need ski school)?

Donna Very Happy

We too were on that flight, the aircraft was a Iittle scary. I sympathise with Donna, all 25 of us were knackered and just wanted someone to give us some advise. The information desk at stansted thought we had been diverted from Budapest! I totally agree with the previous comments regarding safety, but as all other flights arrived in Cardiff both before and after our slot, we would just like some answers. Incidentally, some people were told it was due to water on the runway.

Empathise with Donna but they got home safe.

I guess Balkan holiday reps are much like other employees, trying to placate hostile clients with whatever excuse may serve to bide them some time, whist they ascertain the situation themselves.

Book through Expedia next time or other independent websites. That's how we do it. No probs so far.
