I'm looking at Hotel Lion as a package with a UK ski company. Stayed there twice, but just wondering if it would work out any cheaper if I were to break it all down and book separately.
My question is how would I go about booking transfers and also lift pass/ski hire???
I booked through Travel Republic in hotel Breza b&b Inc flights and bags for 2 weeks and cost £380. Should give you a comparison. Hire and transfers are easy to arrange and if you speak to Kas & Bobby they can advise. They do transfers and we have used them. Would really recommend. http://www.bobbystransfersborovets.com/

The Lion you can book for around 110 levs a night for a Double Room.
The transfer you can book via Bobbys or if you are just allone you can organise it your self by taxi and bus.
Flights you can check online.
Hi, we used to book a package trip to Borovets for many years, we then used Travel Republic but they only have a limited number of hotels, now we build up the trip and save around 25%.
You can book your flights direct, a number of low cost airlines travel to Sofia, I book the hotel direct Iglika Palace due to the location of the hotel, they use Profi-Tours, which I have now used for 4 years. Profi-Tours also arrange taxi transfers this year 95 Euros return.

Have looked at the Lion got good reviews but you need a taxi or bus up to the slopes as its a trek.
Thanks to all for your tips and recommendations.
Just checked package holiday prices again today and they have gone up !
Even more reason to do my homework on breaking it down.
Check out tour operators website for your dates for last minute booking-there were some very cheap offers on Crystal site recently-also take into consideration that a tour operator is responsible for you if things go wrong-can remember that we were held up by a crash returning to the airport but the tour operator was responsible if we had missed the plane and in fact they held the plane for us!!If we had booked everything separately we would have had to sort out another flight!! It will depend when you want to go-if it is half term week then it may be cheaper individually.
This is my other thought, on booking as a package! Always have done, but then always hear of how people got it cheaper do it individually.
Tried Crystal, - my problem is that my nearest airport is Bristol and haven't got the flexibility of looking at different airlines, so I am just stuck with Balkan/Neilson on that respect. My next nearest airport is Gatwick which would take me 6 hours to get too. The downside of living in Cornwall !!

I hear what you are saying and may just book the ski stuff out in resort, if this works out cheaper. Looking at travelling on 28th Feb

Do you have any saved nectar points as you can use them towards Easyjet flights, and you can use your Tesco clubcard points towards BA avios flights. Also worth joining the BA executive club as you can often get slightly cheaper flights and then accrue miles from those. You can also transfer avios miles between these accounts.
For future reference, if you have enough avios miles then you pay just £17.50 per flight Heathrow-Sofia.
Not sure if you are travelling alone, but if so ...

Not sure if you are travelling alone, but if so then you can book single occupancy of a double room for around £150 HB right in Borovets village. A return transfer costs approx £60, and a ski package with Hunters is approx £160 (obviously these prices depend on the exchange rate on the day you pay).
I'm going in a couple of weeks, have paid £35 each for flights for 2 of us, an apartment in the Royal Plaza in the centre of the village is £160 each, plus £30 transfer each. So that's £225 each plus our ski packs. Less than £400 each in total.
Obviously sharing an hotel room on HB would be even cheaper, coming out at around £350 HB (inc the ski pack) but we prefer the apartment and self-catering to an hotel.
Hope this gives you a better idea of costing a d-i-y trip over a package. I guess a lot will depend on flight costs. Good luck, and save those supermarket loyalty points for next year!
I agree that your nearest airport is Bristol - but both Birmingham and Heathrow are closer to Bristol than Gatwick. I live 30 miles north of Bristol. Once you have got to Bristol both those airport are a bit less than 90 mins, but Gatwick is at least another hour on from Heathrow and can be a beast of a journey due to traffic. If you consider travelling that far then you could also factor in East Midlands (not as far away as you might think) or Manchester.

Wizzair do cheap flights from Luton, and that wouldn't really be a lot further away from you than Gatwick - probably about the same distance once you get to the M25, depends if you turn left or right!
Im sure all has been said already but I now use Travel Republic instead of the tour operators. Get flights and hotel. Use Bobbys transfers to get to resort 105 euro return for 5 people (Bargain). Snowmasters and Hunters are good for skis and lessons if required. Lift pass just buy at the Gondola Ive found that there is no real saving in buying in advance.
Saved about £150 per person doing it this way this year
