Hi all,
We're novice skiers in Pamps from Feb 21st (Belmont)
2 adults + 13yr old + 7yr old.
We're trying to book tuition before arrival but struggling to work out what's best to do. Will 4hrs in one go each day be too much for beginners? Do we need 6 days? (i.e might we want a day off for other sight seeing?) is it better being in a group with other beginners or with an instructor to ourselves? Should our 7 yr old be with the rest of the family or in a kinderkarten school? Might it be ...

So many questions.. our heads are spinning!
Any recommendations gratefully recieved!!!
Who have you booked through? (Tour operator, Balkan etc) and what have you actually booked at the moment, i.e lift passes, ski's & boots?
You need to contact your tour operator immediately and pre book 'Learn to Ski' packs so you will have your lift passes, ski school and ski's/boots all included. If you don't you will pay double the cost their.
You should all be able to ski together as you are beginners in a class of other beginners between 8-10 class size. Your 7 year old will ...

You should all be able to ski together as you are beginners in a class of other beginners between 8-10 class size. Your 7 year old will improve better than you, so don't worry about him. The ski instructors in Pamps are the best in the world and its the best place to learn to ski. 4 hours a day will not be too much for you!... in fact after ski school you will want to ski more! If you want a day off no probs just let your ski instructor know the day before. Everything in Pamps is so organised for the beginner they will look after you big style.
BUT YOU MUST PRE BOOK LEARN TO SKI PACKS BEFORE YOU GO!!
Hi DD,
Thanks for this. We're with Balkan Holidays via an internet 3rd party. We have lift passes through them also. The thing that made us hesitate about also booking the lessons etc was that our 7yr old would be away from the rest of the family (but maybe that's not a problem?) Is the 4 hour lesson 4 hours in a row or 2 x 2??
many thanks!
Did you just book lift passes? What about ski's & boots? Also when did you book, was it in the last few weeks as Balkan have a half price ski pack deal on at the moment.
Lessons are 2 hours in morning then lunch then 2 hours in the afternoon, finish about 3.00 - 3.30.
Hi DD
We booked the hotel/flights etc a month or 2 back. The ski passes today... we're currently thinking maybe we should get on to the agent tomorrow first thing and try to get the lessons bolted on............ sound sensible?
PS thanks for the advice...
Everyone else reckon DD's got it right?
PPS... excellent forum this...compliments to the chef..!
You don't just want to get the lessons 'bolted' on you need to cancel the lift passes and re book 'learn to ski' packs, as I've repeatedly stated.
Balkan prices are as follows:
Adult Child
Lift Pass £67 £52
Ski Hire £32 £20
Boots £23 £15
Ski School £72 £49

What I don't understand is what were you intending to do on the first morning of skiing, bearing in mind you are all beginners!... Armed with your lift passes but no ski's, boots or instruction?
Oh, just another point, ski school minimum age in Pamps is 8 (its 7 in Borovets?) In view of this just say your youngest is 8!... Once in resort the instructors won't question you, just say he's 8. My son learnt to ski in Pamp when he was 6!... never a problem with ski school and he came with us. Just told them he was 8.
Hi DD,
Thanks for the excellent advice and information. I wish we'd corresponded earlier. Sadly we've left it too late. Our agent won't/can't refund the passes and re-book packs - they say it's too short notice. So, we're faced with paying more to 'bolt on' the lessons etc, or booking those independently (which was the reason we purchased the passes seperately). Should've got the 'ski packs' right at the beginning. Ho hum, live and learn! Once again tho - thanks for your information. ...

Ok, as you can't arrange learn to ski packs wait until you get to Pamps then on the first morning get the ski bus to SKI CENTRE 2 (not 1). Go to the ski depot at the top floor and ask to speak to Maria, (she is the head person) a lovely lady who speaks perfect English. Tell her you are beginners and you need ski's & boots, ski school and you want to all ski together. If she asks how old your youngest is just say 8, but she probably won't. She will sort you out without you getting ripped off. ...

Hi Whippy,
I have a friend in Pamps who is an instructor and can arrange Lessons and ski pack for you and can sort out the different levels. No reason why you should not all ski in the same group, other than the fact that the kids will show you up after a couple of days!! If you email [email protected] his name is Chris and speaks and writes very good english - If you write to him he will give you some prices. As a bonus he will also get you good prices at the restaurants. If you look at ...

As a bonus he will also get you good prices at the restaurants. If you look at the recent posts you will see how important this is. For ski packs you should pay about 120lev per week (about £57) each. You will have a great time and Chris will meet you on the first morning and sort everything out for you. Hope this helps. Regards
