Pamps Report - Long

Went to Pamporovo, transfer from Sofia pretty hideous. 4 hours and I swear we had a drunk driver, Boozy Bobby, couldn’t keep the thing in a straight line for toffee. Eventually got to the Perelik and after the porters were falling over themselves to help us (obviously after the tips) went straight into BJ’s were we met the 1st important person of many, Kate. Tremendous girl, great fun and very friendly. Lots to drink, impromptu karaoke sessions, and retired to bed at around 6am.

Tremendous girl, great fun and very friendly. Lots to drink, impromptu karaoke sessions, and retired to bed at around 6am.

First day’s skiing was interesting. We were in a group of 6 and 4 had lessons while myself and another didn’t. There was a mix up in the booking. Fortunately, we’d both skied before so knew the basics. While the group went for their lessons with the 2nd and possibly the most important person of the holiday - Kotsy the Legend of the Mountain, we ventured off. Tremendous weather, bright, sunny and warm-hot. Ski conditions were a little treacherous in places and there was quite a bit of ice. Back to BJ’s for more of the night before where Koko cropped up. He’s a decent bloke with more pies than he can put his fingers into. Ladies of the night were quite prevalent – HELLO WILDCAT!!!

The 2nd day was pretty much the same only with less snow but now the others knew the basics we ventured off in the afternoon and did our own things. Big mistake for one in particular and halfway down the green run towards the bottom of the slope, Gunther deliberately fell to the ground as he was getting up some frightening speed and wanted to avoid death. He ended up veering left and went flying 15ft down into the small stream by the side of the run. We all rushed over to mock, laugh, point and take photos!!! Back into BJ’s and then onto Dak’s Bar. This turned out to be our local establishment. We were the ones in the funny wigs, hats and glasses. The bar staff and people we met in Daks’ were brilliant. Nic, Lussie, Valentina, The Mad DJ to name a few. Spent several mornings with these guys eating breakfast at 8am after a heavy night, great fun and great hosts.

Wonderful snow overnight. 0.5m of snow providing excellent conditions on the slopes. Continued to snow for the rest of the week at quite a rate too. Same old story on the slopes same old story in the evenings as bonds grew.
Vitto the characturist turned up and became another important figure in our memories. His broken English only translated by drawings, bizarre actions and his love for Harley Davidsons. Wanted us all to come back to his house in Plovdiv for more drinks after hours…..politely declined.

Went on the Ski Doos Wednesday PM. Missed half a day’s skiing for the privilege and the ski doo man couldn’t organise a ski doo safari in a ski resort. We were meant to meet him at 3.15 in Pamporovo hotel and he turned up at 4pm just after some people had left. He then said he was ready to go, no apology, and wanted the others to just come back – taxis aren’t free in Bulgaria you know! To cut a long story shorter, he drove us back to the Perelik to get the others, had an altercation with a policeman after a near crash and we eventually got ski dooing about 6pm. Slightly disappointed, as there was rarely the chance to fully open the thing up, but still very much worth it. More alcohol…..more hangovers. More stories omitted for graphic content. Pamporovo Pop Idol, I didn’t enter but should have done. I’m convinced I’d have won it with my all round performance. The crowd loved me and my impromptu sessions. Bo Selecta!

Kotsy – The Legend of the Mountain, let us all join up together for the day and all ski as one. Had a great day skiing in the fresh powder, great spitroast chicken with the mountain man and back to BJ’s for more of the same.

The last day I couldn’t physically go skiing. The alcohol had taken it’s toll and the legs were worn down so myself and Long Toe enjoyed a day off the slopes and a day in the White Heart watching Football and The Usual Suspects.

Special mentions to Graham, Sue and the family, Mick Dundee the Auzzie boarder and mates, Jodie and Naomi, The Mountain Man and the others I’ve already mentioned.

The only gripe I had the whole week was the food. I was prepared not to like it but I did. The gripe being that the food was cold, however I later learned that this is a traditional Bulgarian way.

Rooms were adequate. Hot water, comfortable beds…what else do you really need?

All in all a fantastic holiday and a definite re-visit is on the cards. All the locals besides the receptionists were hospitable and friendly. We’re all feeling the holiday blues and depressed. Only 300 odd days till go till the next visit!

We’ll miss you Pamps

Tremendous girl, great fun and very friendly. Lots to drink, impromptu karaoke sessions, and retired to bed at around 6am. This is probably the best time to apologise for the wild cry’s of “I Luuuuuuv U” at silly o’clock in the morning, but Long Toe did genuinely love everyone. Is honesty a crime these days?

First day’s skiing was interesting. We were in a group of 6 and 4 had lessons while myself and another didn’t. There was a mix up in the booking. Fortunately, we’d both skied before so knew the basics. While the group went for their lessons with the 2nd and possibly the most important person of the holiday - Kotsy the Legend of the Mountain, we ventured off. He’s a decent bloke with more pies than he can put his fingers into. Ladies of the night were quite prevalent – HELLO WILDCAT!!! Caught Gunther with a beauty of a snowball square in the eye. Obviously the intoxication hid the fact there was a stone in it. If it didn’t cut his eye and nearly blind him it would have been funnier than hysterical.

This turned out to be our local establishment. We were the ones in the funny wigs, hats and glasses. The bar staff and people we met in Daks’ were brilliant. Nic, Lussie, Valentina, The Mad DJ to name a few. Even Scouse was wearing wigs and he’s usually a dignified character, although until the photographic eveidnce was produced he still doubted it. Spent several mornings with the guys from Daks’ eating breakfast at 8am after a heavy night, great fun and great hosts.

Had volcanoeus growths appear on my lips….herpes I’m told. Blame the weather son, blame the weather!

The only real event in the morning’s skiing went to Top Bunk. A tidy crash into a tree leaving the poor fella with a baloon for a hand and a nice egg shape on his head for his efforts. Kotsy – The Legend of the Mountain, let us all join up together for the day and all ski as one. Had a great day skiing in the fresh powder, great spitroast chicken with the mountain man and back to BJ’s for more of the same. Long Toe, the animal he is, managed 10 grape brandies and a Kaminitza before hitting the slopes accompanied by Dutch courage….Eat snow!

The last day I couldn’t physically go skiing. The alcohol had taken it’s toll and the legs were worn down so myself and Long Toe enjoyed a day off the slopes and a day in the White Heart watching Football and The Usual Suspects. Those of you who were present at the conference room at the Perelik for your ski awards will testify to the best Caterpillar dance off on stage, proper bo! Obviously fuelled with the day’s alcohol we then went on to have the best night of the holiday in Daks….Ibiza in the snow. Heaving and just superb. There’s also a wonderful love story to come out of this holiday, but I’ll save people’s dignity by masking their identities on this, eh Fat Head, how does that grab ya?

Special mentions to Graham, Sue and the family, Mick Dundee the Auzzie boarder and mates, Jodie and Naomi, The Mountain Man and the others I’ve already mentioned.

re: Pamps Report - Long

Ellie, Keep up the good work in trying to get more people to the MEET!

Wierd Kid, what a great report, your holiday almost mirrored mine, although the food in the Prespa, was excellent, HOT TOO!
And I also made it on the last day skiing, I never missed a day, drunk or not, and more often was drunk again by lunch time, due to Kotse's hip flask of Grappa, and a mastika with lunch and a couple of beers. Very Happy

Hope to see all you guys in stoke on 3rd April!

re: Pamps Report - Long

hey weird kid, i reckon i was on that ski-doo safari with you lot. was it one of you that decided it would be fun to start chucking all those paper flyers for bj's all over the place? nice one! place was a bit too pristine, much better to mess it up a bit, remind the people of what they left at home.

Yeah that's us! Wow, funny that you feel brave now you're behind a keyboard to say something. Incidently, I didn't agree with what that young ragamuffin was doing and had the mind to say so. Shame you didn't.
