Hi,
(excuse my spelling, I am from Newcastle..)
Just returned on Sunday Night last and had a great time.
Plovdiv airport, what can I say. Very basic but functional.
HOTEL
The Perelik is clean and fairly comfortable but we found the food to be very below standard and cold. But at about 6/7 quid each to eat out including beer kept us entertained. We ate at the Pizza Place, White heart and the "so called" Mexican in the Perelik. All served good cheap food. If I had a complaint ...

If I had a complaint it would be the repetition of the music in BJ's and Perelik lounge bar, if I hear Gloria Estafan of Roxette on more time I am commiting suicide! See Daytun's comments about changing money, we took no Leva and got what we needed in the Resort.
Oh, you may think about taking some toilet paper.
Ski Transfers
I agree with Daytun. On the first few days, whilst everyone is keen, the ski bus is a joke. You would do the english thing and form a queue. The bus would stop somewhere in the middle hacking off the people at the front.... If you run into trouble take a Taxi there fun, licenced and cheap. (Notice I didnt say modern..) A Taxi is usually on the meter and costs 10LV.
Kit Issue
A bit of a scrum on the first day, no coordination. My boots were terrible, so I bought some. In general there is a lot of new kit starting to appear, but the new boots seem to be making their way to the instructors feet.
SKI Slopes
We had excellent snow and a lot of the time had the blues, reds, and blacks to ourselves. We prefered visiting Huskys, it was always nice and warm in there and the hot chocolate is good too. Some of the runs arnt on the maps, for example the lakes run over the back has some spectacular views.
Tuition
Firstly I can Ski well and I witnessed some excellent and some absolutly terrible tuition. My wife started out in a group of 16 with an instructor called Jenny (good instructor). Dont believe the brouchors, there is no appraisal before you are allocated a group, its simply herding together of 10ish people after kit is issued. She spent far too much time on the tiny nursury slopes (Mon-Wed) doing too much walking up and down the hill. There is a much better nursury slope at the top of the mountain, try and get up there asap it at least has a drag lift... On Wednessday her group was split, and unfortunatly she got put with an instuctor who wanted to spend more time socalising with his mates in the top cafe than teaching. He taught no theory, didnt relay any information about body position, edges etc. I get the impression that he was happy for them to have mastered the "out-of-control" snowplough everywhere. I took my wife out of lessons and with a mate (ex Army instructor) taught her ourselves. We had her confidently down the blues doing fairly successfull step/wedge turns (even a couple of parrallel turns emerged). By the end of the week her old group was still picking its way down the green and very bored. The moral of the story is if you sense you are not progressing fast enough have a word with your rep, she/he will in turn speak to the ski school and have you moved.
Organised events.
We did the Bulgaria eve, Pub Crawl and the Ski doo hour. Pub crawl, pretty butlins if you know what I mean. Bulgaria eve was worth the money, good food and lots of alcohol. Ski doo is a must, absolutly excellent. We did it on Sunday afternoon as we had a few hours to kill before getting the bus home.

Cheers Paul,I'm off to Paporova on Saturday, hotel unknown! We're looking forward to learning to Board, although like yourself we can ski OK, so we'll probably get some skiing in some afternoons. Glad you enjoyed it. (any further tips or hints much appreciated)

Hi Paul your spelling is fine
Thanks for the update, we too are staying at the Perelik, the food concerns me as we have a few teenagers in our group, would complaining do any good
or should we just eat somewhere else. How was the snow, was it deep or were there icy patches
And the question on everyone's lips - did you eat at the MacDonalds which is at the middle station.

Sarah complaining about the food at the hotel or anywhere will do you no good at all. Bulgarians do not eat there food piping hot like ourselves it is eastern european thing. I found the best way was to make sure I was at the hotel restaurant when it oppened usely 6.30. Dont worry about it after a day on the slopes you kids will be so hungry they will eat anything!

Teenagers, your going to have your hands full .. the bars seem to like nothing more than ply alcohol onto teenagers, so be carefull.
Dont bother complaining, I think its just par for the course. If I was a cynical person its in the Perelik's interest to keep the food standard adequate as it pushes you into the other restaraunts it owns. The Pizza place it excellent value, good pancakes.....
The Snow was great for us, but towards the end of the week it started to wear a bit thin on ...

There are some places over the back of the mountain where you can experience deep snow, but only did this once.... One thing I will say about Pamp's is that you need to learn where to get up some speed otherwise you will find yourself doing a lot of walking
Never saw McDonalds at all on the slopes..... The food on the slopes was generally cheap and good though.....
