Plovdiv is a shed

Went to Pamp last year best snow in ages. Stuck in Plovdiv for over 2 hours on the way home. I expected to see cattle wandering about the building. Surly Bulgarian staff obviously not got the glasnost spirit yet

Avoid it and fly to Sofia if possible

Yes much better if you are going to Pamporovo. Why bother to have a one and a half hour transfer when it could be 4 hours if you land at Sofia! Just brilliant. Its an aiprort it does it's job plane lands plane takes off. Good enough for me.

All very well if you don't mind 4 hours on a coach!

re: Plovdiv is a shed

Depends where you are travelling from and to I think. For those in the west country I know that the Balkan flight from Bristol only goes to Plovdiv. The alternative is to travel to Gatwick etc which is a trek UK end. On the BG side if you are going to Bansko Sofia is far closer.

Wrong to generalise. Shortest journey is usually best I find and you can put up with lack of airport facilities if overall travelling time is less.

My thoughts only.

sofia's not that much better than plovdiv and to be quite honest who cares what the airport is like - you are going skiing not sight seeing in airports!!

re: Plovdiv is a shed

I wish I'd known this before I booked - we opted for the Plovdiv flight because the flight gets in earlier and means 9pm resort arrival rather than 11pm.

Does Plovdiv have a duty free shop? I want to pick up some more Black Sea Gold brandy on the way home Booze

re: Plovdiv is a shed

on 5th feb we should have landed in plovdiv but had to go to sofia buses were still at plovdiv had to wait 2 hours for buses to transfer, then the journey from sofia to Pamps we were "lucky" driver didn't think roads bad still took 4 hours but other took 5 or more because of conditions fine on the day as it meant more snow for us but wouldn't want to do it every visit lucky in fact from Newcastle only can do plovdiv

plovdiv doesn't have a duty free
