Popangelov CLOSED from 3rd Feb - 16th Feb

I have tried to remain positive about the conditions for the last few weeks in the lead up to our holiday on 8th Feb but the news that Borosport are closing the Popangelov run from 3rd-16th Feb has left me wishing I hadn't booked here this year. The forecast seems to be for a tiny bit of snow over the next week or so but this will clearly not open the rest of the runs so, in effect, reasonable skiers will all be sharing one red run all week..... Brilliant.

Sorry for the rant but so so ...

My friend is in a similar position to you as he is more of a seasoned skier than me. I'm wishing I had spoken to Balkan Travel a couple of weeks ago and asked about changing over resorts - I guess with just over a week to go it is too late now.

Does anyone know if it is feasible to travel to Bansko for a day from Borovets and what the likely cost would be for the travel/ski hire/lift pass etc for the day?

Thanks Shaky

PS - If Popangelov is closed the whole time then it would have been a nice gesture for the lift pass to cover the evening skiing as well!

Hi Shaky,

From Boro to Bansko is 2hrs in each direction approx so not really a day trip.

You don't have to be sorry for your rant - you are rightly disappointed!
So many people are saying "I will have a great time whatever the conditions". I just can't go with that I am afraid.
If I save all year for a skiing holiday - I want to expect some half decent skiing! Neutral
I really hope things improve for you soon.

Just read a review by someone called Rob on the tripadvisor website and he has just been and he said that some more runs could be open but haven't had the pistes prepared yet for no apparent reason. Quite a damming take on the Bulgarians.

re:Popangelov CLOSED from 3rd Feb - 16th Feb

We were due out on the 11th Feb but canceled the whole trip two weeks ago, lost our flight money and booked a cheap package deal to Flaine in the Alps. Rather that than having a whole family of 7 frustrated for a week, as the majority of the group only likes the green and blues. Very gutted though as we look forward to our Borovets holiday every year. We will be coming to Borovets end of March if the snow cover has improved.Still looking on the webcams and checking the forecasts every day ...

If theres pistes that haven't been bashed there will be a very good reason, as I'm sure they are as desperate as everyone else to get more runs open. If theres not enough snow depth thats compacted then they can't bash it.

I keep looking at the webcam at the top of the sitnyakovo lift. It looks like it has a fair amount of snow, fingers crossed for getting that side open.
Plus the lift there has been on and off for the past three days, looks like they keep checking it out.

I'm just clutching at straws now though ... Sad
