Put my mind at ease, please

Hi everyone

17 days to go and I'm a bit nervous about the flight, are the planes really as bad as everyone makes out on here. I'm not usually worried but there are a few scaremongers on this board.

I'll just have to have a couple of shots of something before take off. Oh by the way we're flying Gatwick to Plovdiv.

Depends on which operator you are flying with, as I have said before, I have a preboked seat next to the rear gunner!! so think I am on an old plane LOL

I have flown to BG 4 times (and back) without any problems, they are a bit basic, with no drinks or food, but just take your own with you!
Plovdiv is a Military Airport, so there are no frills there, very few shops, if any at all. So again take something with you from the resort for your return flight!

The planes are very basic and if you're used to flying BA then it will probably freak you a little. Don't expect, fancy interior furnishings etc. At the end of the day, all aircraft have to pass rigorous safety checks and wouldn't be in the sky if they weren't safe. Take your own food and booze and enjoy the buzz. Everyone else on the plane is going for the same reasons as you and the Bulgarian cabin crew are usually up for a laugh too.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm flying with Balkan if that makes any difference. I know it will be alright, but can't help worrying. It says in the Balkan brochure that all in flight food is included in the price, to does this mean there will be some food.

Chill Mandie,,, It'll be fine. The airline in fact have an exceptional safety record even if the planes are basic. You are 1000 times more likely to hurt yourself boarding. Get bladdered and enjoy the roller coaster ride to the snow.

Last year the food on the plane was some filled rolls of ham, cream cheese etc. A salad and a snickers bar.

It will make the food in the hotels seem luxurious!!!

We got back from Borovets on Saturday. Flew with Balkan Holidays own airline - absolutely fine - it was an airbus and not one of the russian planes - food was OK - ham sandwiches and snickers bar and a drink !

One thing we didn't know about though if you have children with you, you can queue jump straight to the front of the passport control place at Sophia so the kids don't have to wait around !

Don't worry - planes don't crash very often......usually only the once

Joking aside - flying is VERY safe - it's far more risky crossing the road

Just remember that the pilot wants to get there too!

The planes are a bit basic but we got there AND back in one piece.
