re: Questions about Borovets

Crystal, there is no point in going to Boro in the summer. Go to Bansko instead-it's a town, not just a winter resort, so it's lively all year round. Razlog is also worth a visit, if you like quaint small places...

Its similar to a big skate board, with big inflatable tyres. Good fun in itself, but also a way of staying fit in the summer for snowboarding in the winter. Couple of good sites www.mountainboarding.co.uk and www.mbs.com

I live in quite a flat area in the UK, so Borovets is like eden!! I have a house in a village 10 minutes outside of Borovets, so i'm slowly working my way through the different sports that Bulgaria can accomodate!! Tried canoeing, mountain boarding, biking, ...

re: Questions about Borovets

Thank you for all your comments everyone. I greatly appreciate it. To clarify a little, it's not just a random road trip I'm taking on my own, The purpose of my visit would be to attend a two-week program being held in Borovets, so timing and place are not exactly a choice. I'm probably going to start my travels a month before the program begins mid-August and maybe even after it ends. So, I may still have the opportunity to see some of the other places in Bulgaria.

Another question I have is if it's feasible to travel to Sofia from Borovets for one night of partying and then going back to Boro the same night?

And I'm also curious what this 'mountain boarding' sport is. I've never heard of it.

Thank you again,
Crystal

re: Questions about Borovets

Well actually my question about mtn boarding just got answered, so nix that.

I figured out that Borovets is like completely across the country from the Black Sea side. How long would it take to travel to the Black Sea from Boro? And what method of transportation for someone without a car would be the most inexpensive and efficient? Is the cost of living (and partying Smile on the eastern coast very expensive?

Again, thank you for your responses.

Crystal, have a look at the websites above for more info. It is great fun and a lot easier to learn than snowboarding.

Sofia is approximately an hour from Borovets and not a journey i would do after a few to many Booze. If you ask the locals, they can guide you to a few lively-ish places in Samakov, which is 15 minutes from Borovets. I am going to be in Bulgaria from the 12th August, until 27th August with the family and a few friends, with the mountain boards in tow, if you fancy giving ...

re: Questions about Borovets

Richard, I looked at the sites. Pictures look terrifyingly exciting. I've never been snowboarding or skiing, but I'm willing to risk my one life for a little excitement. When you say the sport is easier to learn than snowboarding... how easy? And is it less dangerous?? (I mean, you're surrounded by rocks and rough surfaces which could easily bash you into a million pieces). If we go, my friend and I will be in Boro for sure between Aug 7th and Aug 19th. re: Questions about Borovets

As long as you stay on a slight incline, rather than the big slopes its really easy and there is a good flat nursery slope in Borovets.

We always wear helmets as a minimum and normally full body armour and have some spare protective kit, although we can't promise that there won't be injuries Wink

Give me a shout through this forum, closer to the time and we can meet up for breaky at the happy duck and a session on the boards, with some Booze afterwards.

Richard,
Your wild if your gonna board down the slopes on that!!!
I think you could do some damage to the old body on those.I'd prefer a softer landing, like snow.I have an idea............put me in an inflated sumo wrestler suit so if I come off I'll be well padded ExclamationIt could catch on. Very Happy
I won't be there in August, I'll be on the coast in Sozopol so have fun on the slopes when you come over.
Fiona Very Happy
