Questions about Borovets

Hi,

I'm an american student, possibly visiting Borovets for a couple of weeks in August. Can someone just provide me a few details on the weather/skiing/partying/anything-else-that-might-be-interesting scenes around that time of year (is there even skiing in August?) ?

Thank you!

Hill walking is the only thing that goes on in August. They have not yet got the rafting etc sorted no bars are open and its very very very quiet.

re: Questions about Borovets

If you go to the Borovets page on here it will give you some ideas.

The Rila Monastery is well worth a visit - not been myself but photos I've seen look beautiful. I think there is also horse riding if that is your kind of thing. Obviously hill walking and visits to the nearby lakes and Samokov town.

I've seen photos on here in the past of the summer and it looks lovely. The main hotels are open and certainly some of the less trendy bars are open as I've seen people sitting out in ...

I've seen photos on here in the past of the summer and it looks lovely. The main hotels are open and certainly some of the less trendy bars are open as I've seen people sitting out in the sunshine.

I'm sure there will be plenty to do for a short break.

Hope this helps

re: Questions about Borovets

I've been over in August and September and the place is dead. There are local music festivals which are great fun, just under a litre of beer for 1lv. Samokov is ok, but again its not great, the bars are very local and unless you know local people you will probably feel somewhat alone. You're best bet is to visit during the ski season, or if you are coming to Bulgaria go to the Black Sea, all the parties from winter end up there for the summer!!

If you are in Borovec then go and see Hristo in Hunters Restaurant (opposite Ela hotel), he does walking excursions in the summer.

Cheers

re: Questions about Borovets

Hey Crystal,
My friend and I are taking our motorcycles thru the Bulgarian mountains in July and will be looking for some partying. We're from New Jersey. Probably overnighting in Bansko, Pamporovo and Borovets. Sure you dont want to visit in mid-July?

Contrary to earlier comments, theres quite a lot going on, you just need to know where to look. There is a lot walking and hiking in the summer, just that the tourists tend to be from everywhere but UK Wink having said that i have bumped into a SAGA party or two. We run riding holidays, everything from a day to a full seven days, up into the mountains all over really, also a lot of mountain biking, even GPS routes exist!! Also there is a wide variety of fishing be it coarse or fly. So dont ...

Also there is a wide variety of fishing be it coarse or fly. So dont think just because its not heaving like the winter the place is dead. A lot of bars are shut but thats because theyre only rented during the winter season, the bars that are 'Owned' are open, as are the hotels. Razz Razz

re: Questions about Borovets

Fraser and Sarah, i totally agree, loads of mountain biking and some really good short climbs to be had.

The other thing that we have given a go, is mountain boarding. The ski runs during the summer are perfect for it. (some far to steep for mountain boards!!) When i have been to different places in the UK and told people about the long, varied runs, they couldn't believe that more people hadn't made the obvious connection i.e. ski runs during the winter, mountain board runs during the ...

My belief is that it just needs promoting more.

Question to the floor: What do you all believe would be the response from the locals, if suddenly there was an influx of mountain bikers and mountain boarders?
