so after a very quiet xmas week the people have started coming. This morning Steve has been running guests up and down the mountain. 10am the queues are now out to the road and down the hill and the other side a pretty similar situation. The free buses are running today for the first time but the queues for them are massive also. They can only take around 80people up every hour so it is not a massive impact on reducing the queue but it is something.

Last night I was off to airport and pretty much all the way from Bansko the traffic on the otherside coming in did not stop until i was nearly in Sofia. Maybe not all coming to Bansko but most looked like they were with skis on top of the cars etc. It is busy now in town and more are on their way.
Bit of fresh snow yesterday and friday night to freshen the slopes a little.
Queues are massive again this morning. A friend of ours got to the gondola yesterday at 08.50hrs queued 2hrs for lift pass then got into queue for gondola waited 1hr and half and then gave up. By then mountain road had been closed for driving up due to ammount of traffic aand full car-parks. This is a seasonaire who got caught out for the first time with the queues.

I have been to Bansko a few times now and have never encountered queues longer than around 20 minutes and usually we walk straIght on
It's something that really does need to be addressed (with that 2nd Gondola that has been planned ages ago) otherwise, in the long run, it is going to deter people taking their skiing holiday in Bansko!

That is not good at all

Must be very difficult call to make .... investing a great deal of money when we are in the middle of an economic recession
But the 'journey' from the town to the slopes is one hell of a bottleneck that needs to be sorted somehow
Even driving up the mountain road queues and the road was shut at 09.45hrs this morning due to large numbers trying to drive and the car-parks being full.
After the madness of yesterday, things have been slightly better today as the revellers have either stayed in bed, or driven home... around 1 hour queuing at peak, mountain road drivable (they gritted today, 1st time in 4 days ) 3 groups dropped off at the bottom of red 12, all very happy, especially a group of Russians who had queued 4 hrs yesterday... bluebird day, piste in great shape, all runs still open... looking forward to Russian new year now
