Is it
1- A peice of rope you hang on to?
2- A T Bar?
3- A pommer lift? Metal pole with seat between legs?

On all pull lifts, never try to sit down on them, but stay ridgid and allow them to pull you up the slope.
some have like buttons that you sit on, others just have a thing for you to hold and nothing to sit on, generally I believe the ones that have nothing to sit on are for very short runs, I have been to Pamps and Bansko and apart from the ski test on the first day never used the ones that you just hold onto, always button or T bar...

ok, I used the wrong phrase thats probably why I fall off, actually once you realise it is not to sit on you get the hang of it immediately
wish I had heard your words of wisdom before first time I tried it save me have making a fool of myself three times on the T bar.
In bansko this year someone fell off the T bar then tried to get back on the next one coming up which had someone else on the far side, they managed to drag the girl off but the T went down her jacket and she could not get it out so was dragged up the mountain, luckily they stopped it seconds before she reached the metal pilon... so don;t try to get back on someone else's if you fall off - that was not so funny..
