We had a fantastic time all round. Highlights included the snow (excellent), Bobby's Bar, skiing to the Musala Hut again (thanks Bobby), sauna at the Alpin followed by a roll in the snow, skiing, seeing the kids improve, the skiing, meeting forum names such as RobTK, so called Mad Mick (lightweight ;-) ), Dave, Alan and Tracy, Noodles, Rob, getting my carved turns really sorted, hammering down the Fon Fon in perfect snow - oh and the skiing ...
Back home now after our great week in Borovets.
We had a fantastic time all round. Highlights included the snow (excellent), Bobby's Bar, skiing to the Musala Hut again (thanks Bobby), sauna at the Alpin followed by a roll in the snow, skiing, seeing the kids improve, the skiing, meeting forum names such as RobTK, so called Mad Mick (lightweight ;-) ), Dave, Alan and Tracy, Noodles, Rob, getting my carved turns really sorted, hammering down the Fon Fon in perfect snow - oh and the skiing.
Have to say it was a pleasure seeing Alan and Tracy. Anyone who has met Alan will know he does not enjoy the best of health but this fella is like the Terminator - nothing keeps him down. Utter utter respect to him - what he does is nothing short of amazing. This is mirrored by Tracy who keeps smiling and is a ray of sunshine. Not only that she was skiing with a knackered thumb tendon that would make a doctor wince. Great couple - it was a pleasure!
I've put Trip Advisor reviews out there for Hunters, the Alpin and Bobby's Bar but I could not write a post about our holiday without mentioning Kas and Bobby. They made our holiday go down a storm. We had a fantastic welcome at BB which is only topped by the food, especially the chicken sach. The only thing missing is a Lutinetsa (sp?) ;-) Value for money it was excellent. We spent a couple of evenings from 4-9:30 ish in there, ate as much as we could, drank more than enough and had the kids entertained and spent £50 & £70 for 5 which is great value. K&B make a great team and are a model of how hospitality can work in Bulgaria.
Another example of the sort of hospitality that you simply do not get elsewhere was at the White House - we stopped to have some hot choccie and brandy - George gave us our hot choccies and simply put a bottle of brandy on the table - class!
We also enjoyed the Stone Hut just down some steep steps by the gondola. More expensive than the WH but a lovely view.
So all in all it was a brilliant week. The snow was superb but the made extra special by the people we met for the first time and saw again. Anyone who plays Bulgaria and Borovets down simply does not know what they are talking about. My in laws came with us and they want to come again and it looks like we will bring my brother-in-law's family as well so it's looking like 11 of us for next year!
Lightweight, come on Gez, I managed 7 nights in a row on it with Dave, that boy can drink. No your right lightweight.
Great report.
Alan and Tracy, I will be looking at coming back the same week hopefully with the baby sitter. Will keep in touch.
Mick.
A day off...nothing to do with the amount you drank last night was it....?!! I'm with Bobo as he's more poorly today and don't want to leave him but will try and get down later and swap with Bobby - if not - see you tomoz!
T - if you're in BB and Valia needs help can you jump behind the bar please?!!
Great review, myself and Debs are going out there for our first ever winter holiday snowboarding and would love some tips and places to go of an evening and if poss some general info about the place etc. things to do and not to do if you know what I mean.
We are heading out there 26th Jan 2013 and staying at the Hotel Samokov.
