Has anyone stayed in Samokov Town and then travelled daily up to Borovets to Ski?
I hear that Somokov is less "touristy" and so cheaper and quieter than Borovets, but is it a nice place to base ourselves?
We prefer a quieter resort and think Boro maybe a little "to lively" for us!! (don't get me wrong we like a couple of beers and good meal but we are not what you would call party animals)
Any tips or advice welcomed.

Is the bus service between the two places reliable?
How much is the taxi fare?
My mate did it a couple of years ago, in a brilliant appartment run by Koolski (post here or on skidvd and he'll get back to you)
There are alternatives to being right in the centre, like the Bor which is about ten minutes on foot down the hill, or the Lion which is about twenty (and also has a free bus). In saying that, the Ela and Moura which are just below the gondola are fairly quiet, as are the Breza and Flora, and are just a stones throw from the main streets.
you could try Chamkoria Chalets. It is just outside Borovets and has a regular shuttle bus to take you to the centre. They have a pool and bistro on-site and the prices are much more reasonable that the centre of Borovets. there is a select of apartments and also chalets so there should be something to suit your group
Samokov is a nice town and there are now a few expats (some who post on here) who will agree (I think ) I won't comment on hotels as I've never stayed in one.
Buses are regular every half hour on the hour last bus down is 7.30pm.
Taxi will cost you 15 lev but you will have to walk up the rank as the guys in the front won't take you.
Restaurents and bars plenty to choose from, Target (Brit/euro menu), Old House (Traditional BG), Bonita (Pizza) also pay a visit to K bar, ...

Another option is to stay in one of the surrounding villages eg Govedartsi or Beli Iskar. Some chalet owners provide a free shuttle to the centre of Borovets. Please email me for more info.
