Arrived back last week. We stayed in the Samakov. Worst thing we found was the pillows. A bag full of large foam chippings. Toilet paper is the hard stuff! The water and air temp in the pool was a bit cool but very refreshing if you were just out of the very hot sauna. We thought the food was perfectly okay so long as you are not expecting exactly what you get at home. It also has the advantage that all the meetings for Balkan take place in the hotel and the ski hire etc is in the basement.

We returned to uk on 15th Jan having stayed in the Samokov the only thing i can say is that the hotel its self is good the rooms are clean and warm ,there are no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms and the "sattelite tv" is actually cable and you will be lucky to find any english speaking programmes on it .
The best piece of advice i can give is be very warey of the food . Breakfast is ok but usually needs warming up in the microwave and the evening meal... well its best not to mention that take my advice and eat out we did .
Try the borosport bar and francos pizza the food is first class there and the sunski bar opposite the hotel is very friendly and the ideal place if you want a quiet drink .
The skiing on the other hand is excellent and i would advise you to take the new 4 man chair lift and ski down the blue run that starts at the top and winds its way down through a forest it is unbelievable .
