Well they have snow up North so I am away at the weekend up to Aviemore to pretend it was a week ago and skiing in Borovets. (I know its nowt like it, but I can pretend, at least its snow and skiing aint it!)
No its not!
I have many friends up in the highlands and its aviemore here the lads come! Mambos on friday followed by the Vault I reakon!
sober of course for the hill on Saturday!
Not a lot really, avoid the main " big " hotels (Mcdonald chain), stay at the Cairngorm hotel or McKenzies Inn (both on the Main Street), Grampian Road ,and its £25 quid a night bed and good Scottish Breakfast. Then theres the "limited "area pass (cos the whole mountains not skiable as yet) at around £18. (check the website out for exact prices).
now the evening drinking thats another matter!, depending how many of my old mates are out to buy me drinks!
Its a good time, but we are not sure ...

Its a good time, but we are not sure where we will be skiing yet as the Lecht and Nevis range as well as Glenshee are all within range, depends which has the best snow on the day I suppose.
Theres allways plenty of cheaper bed and breakfasts available if you choose.
Haven't skied in Scotland before but I have dome tons of winter mountaineering and ice climbing and I can tell you that Scotland is a winter wonderland (when the conditions are good that is!).
Scotland is extreme and only for the hardcore enthusiast as the weather is far more severe than in Europe. However, in my books it is VERY much worth it.
sure, if its bad they shut the snowgates at a place called Bruar, and divert you into the villiage, but thats only happened to us once or twice travelling through the night. They look after the roads a hell of a lot better in the Highlands than in England. There again its income isnt it with all the skiers coming along to Aviemore and the rest.
Should be heading up to Aviemore on Saturday as well weather permitting. Went to Glenshee a couple of weekends ago, the cover was pretty thin and only one run was open but it whetted the appetite!! Off to pamporovo in March for the second time - counting the days!!!
