Why not wear them ? - - - - I lost mine at Grenoble airport last year, no problem Bristol out however local security took them off me on the way back and too late to check in the hold.
sorry but thats C**P weve just come back having flown easyjet, we carried the boots due to the weight!! the kids rucsacks had their boots and their helmets in, My wife carried a straight forward boot bag, the only question about boots was whether we had any in the paid for ski bag!! As they are so tight on weight, but state you can take carry on bags as long as you can carry them it makes sense!!
As Fraser has said I have also carried ski boots as hand luggage with Easyet and Wizz no problems I have never been asked if I have ski boots in hand luggage at Luton or gatwick.
As for carrying them around at the airport well I must be stonger than others because I don't find 5.5kg that heavy.
Hi all. Having had 'issues' recently with the security staff at Gatwick, I now have someone there who I can contact regarding such issues. She even managed to arrange a cheque for me to compensate for the inconsistent behaviour of the security staff.
I asked about the official line regarding ski boots in hand baggage and here is the reply:

Many thanks for your email. It is ok to pack ski boots in your hand luggage so long as your cabin baggage is no larger than: • 56cm (22in) tall • 45cm (17.7in) wide • 25cm (10in) deep I can see no reason why these boots would be refused. I hope this information is helpful and your next trip is an enjoyable one.
Always carry our boots in a boot bag and never once been challenged. We also get the kids to wear their helmets to save on space. I dont understand the fuss, once you are through passport control etc noone seems to care what you are carrying.
