Mike, You must be correct and I have been skiing on the wrong length of ski. Slight problem, I'm a former racer like yourself, slightly pro volkl, like a good GS ski, but off the shelf they don't do anything longer 185 in a GS and 170 in a slalom ski. Guess some intermediates must be flying around on some pretty hot skis.
Carvers werent out when i skiied 210s,interested to hear you raced, whereabout and who for ????
Dont really think intermediates would be bothered about GS or Slalom, but as they did improve they probably wished they hadnt wasted their money on something as short as 165s,unless of course they wanted to be "flying around"instead of Skiing !!
NZ army ski team. Turoa. Hope that clears things up so no I'm not one of these people that say they raced to get attention and I'm affraid I was never of a high std but when it comes to what is out there as far as gear goes, I do know what I am talking about.
PS, off piste or Big mountain skis (as a lot of people call them these days) are real. I assume when you talk about a 210cm ski your racing days were pre 1990s. Those were the days. I know of a lot of people still rave about ...

I think ski technogy has moved on. Have a look through some manufactures websites, see if you can find a non race ski that is 185 long.
And skis do react to weight. If you are correct then we'd all be skiing on skis 10 - 20 cms taller than our height. Im not going to say more, as your obviously an expert!!!
Garry,
yes you are correct skis do react to weight, but they react by the way the skiier distributes his or her weight,ie by leaning forward or back on the ski.Not sure where you get the 10-20cms taller bit.......anyway yous all took the bate, cheers for the windup !!!!
Nice wind up! After saying all I did, I actually ski on 170's. Faster more stable, and they dont flap. The 10 - 20 cm bit is because, if your short 180's will be that much longer, if that makes sense. Or perhaps its because I went to the dentist earlier, that anashetic effected my brain.
