Same type of boot as with normal skis although you can get more specific boots which keep you in a more upright stance, which is better for skiboards. Rossignol soft light boots or salomon verse.
Gidday Del Boy,
A good guide on length is, when the ski is standing upright the ski should come up to between your chin and forehead. If you going for carvers or a piste based ski you'll be wanting something on the shorter end of the scale, if off piste is your thing then it'll be longer and wider.
All good ski shops will be able to advise on length of ski so ask them for advice.
Ski Length is determined by weight as well as height and offcorse yor skiing ability. A ski wont react to how tall you are, it reacts to how heavy you are!! Go for about 165cm. When you buy them, explain to to guy in the shop your skiing abbility etc and they should advise you.
Without sounding rude, the above post stating 180/185 is wrong, this length is to long!!
Gary,a ski doesnt react to height or weight,it reacts to the way the skier is skiing,165 is for kids,a 180 is for an intermediate skier, ive never heard so much crap written about skis......
Careful Mike. Your statement means that aproax 75% of the worlds expert skiers are skiing skis too short for them. I'd agree with you if you were talking about a pure off piste ski but if it's on piste for a mid weight, intermidiate then a 165 is ample but it depends on many different things that can't be determinded on a forum. As I said, the best thing to do is get to a good shop that can advise.
Kiwi,
Who do you determine as expert skiers, the shorter the ski the easier it it to manouvre,ie skiing mogules etc if you ski 165 on a long piste they vibrate like hell and are not the best to control, this is why 180s are a good alround ski length. In my racing days i used 210,and as for off piste skiing, you dont get an off piste ski,you sit back slightly so you lift the tip of your skis, thus being easier to ski in off piste powder, width has nothing to do with it....sounds like you got your ...
