First time posting but have found all the posts really useful! Only second time skiing and heard great things about Bulgaria.....
Bit confused about the 'ski road' that I've seen mentioned in Bansko? Can someone tell me what it is? Is it just a road that gets covered in snow during the ski season!?!
The ski road is 7km long and runs from the top to the bottom of the gondola. It is a lovely easy ski down at the end of the day. When the snow melts in the spring it becomes a very rough track with flints and streams running across it at various points.
Haven't stayed at the Perun personally but friends have and found it excellent. Try the Happy End and Lion bars and Kafe Parfe in the town. Also well worthwhile skipping a few meals in the hotel and trying the local mehanas for dinner.
Hope this helps. If you have any more questions come back to me.
I stayed at the Perun last March - FAB!!! I loved it so much I booked straight away when coming back to go there again this year - I am there 4th March,
Ski road is lovely - especially when conditions are good and they look pretty good at the moment!
If I look at the snow cover report, it tells that there is 1 meter of snow. In spite of that, it is not possible to ski at the ski road to Bansko. Are the circumstances at the top of the gondola so much different from those at he bottom?
I'll be in Bansko again from 11th. till 20th. March. Do you have any idea if it is usually still possible then to ski down to the village?
Yes - quite different because of the height difference.
I was there last year in the first week of March and they had had excellent dumps of snow (record levels I think) so the ski road was fine. It has snow cannons en route but I suppose if it is not freezing at that level then they are not much use. Fingers crossed it will be OK for when we go!
