re: Skier - Blader - Boarder

I am a lurker on this site - generally checking conditions and piccies but this year I'm off to Bansko so 3/5xdaily checks on the site!! But I had to respond to this post!!

It's not about what you ride - everyone rides the same white slippy stuff (Admittedly not everyone does it with grace and elegance!! Wink) Its about enjoying doing it!! I have never skied and would love to try it - I can't moan about skiers as Missus Andy Skis!! You can't beat skiers on the flat - someone will ...

It's not about what you ride - everyone rides the same white slippy stuff (Admittedly not everyone does it with grace and elegance!! Wink) Its about enjoying doing it!! I have never skied and would love to try it - I can't moan about skiers as Missus Andy Skis!! You can't beat skiers on the flat - someone will generally give you a tow and as long as you are courteous theres no problem!! The one thing that annoys me are the people who have never ridden before (Generally snowboarders to my shame!!) who go to the shops before heading away and get themselves fully blinged up with the latest gear, Take it with them expecting the best equipment to make them great boarders and then laughing at the guys who don't look like them!!
Example:
My season in Meribel - Two Hoorays dressed like pros and being obnoxious (Abusive to skiers and those who didn't look like them {including me in my ripped pants with a shabby looking, but very faithful board}!!) chatting up two young ladies in the lift queue. They were boasting about method airs and 540's and I was thinking - these guys have got to be good!! I followed them up in the lift and waited back to watch the awesome performance ahead!!
My two Hoorays mounted their boards and looked to be sizing up the line, when a ski school went ahead - because thats what they do!!! Instantly the tow guys started screaming and cussing in the very best anglo-saxon imaginable to the school before turning into the piste!! Of course I wanted to watch these pros as they made their descent - Maybe I could pick something up!!
Safe to say - they made it about ten yards before going over and blaming everyone, they couldn't turn and were a menace to everyone (and their young fillies had soon gracefully headed off - hehehehe) Only one thing for it - Swing out wide and cover them in a nice wave of Meribels' coldest!!!! It felt soooo good!!
Those guys were an embarassment to the sport and a real let down to everyone on a board.

Anyway - thats my rant about that over!! Very Happy

The Skier/Snowboarder war continues but I, as a practising pacifist, will do everything I can to ensure that it doesn't give snowboarders a bad name!!

(Until everyone on skis realises their mistake and follows the one true way!!! :p)

Bril points.....

I have tried all three and I stick with the blades because they are easier on the Knees (did too many tricks, or is it bad crashes lol). However I do get on the fat boy skis for off piste. Get some good speed. Really good control and no sticks.

Boarding was taken up as a "rage against the machine" by younger people. Fact is that twin tip skiing is the "new" cool as it is not main stream.

Boarding did bring us better clothes (not the baggy assed things) and improvements in technology. The only thing that REALLY pees me off is sitting in the middle of the piste. I have to say that it is not just boarders however they are the main contributors to this issue. It is not about looking cool, it is about saftey...

There does seem to be a joining of skiers and boarders against the bladers and twin tippers of this world.

Bring on the snow and the beer.......
