re: Skiing or Boarding?

The problem with boarding is you are in a group of 12-20 year olds that say things like "radical wow man. Rad,cool duuuuuude wipeout!!! So if you want to be in the company of ilitarate morons then go boarding!!!!

No offense was ment in the posting of this message any taken is purely your own fault.

re: Skiing or Boarding?

Neither. Both have their difficulties.
Of course like the previous post mentioned, boarding requires more balance than skiing. However skiing requires more patience and coordination. Honestly after 24 years, I still do both.
Through trees, flat lands, icey conditions, group functions, and moguls….skis are the way to go.
Through deep power, balls out high drops, and riding backside bowls, boarding is the weapon of choice. As for pissing people off while boarding? It happens when boarders ...

It happens when boarders transverse(riding left to right) down a crowded run, which is obviously not tolerated by most but something boarders have to do to get down the mountain. Nevertheless, when I do board, it’s sure as hell not done on a groomed run or anywhere in the proximity.

If you’re just learning try both and decide for yourself. Maybe 3 days skiing and 3 days boarding; with lessons in between, excellent hockey padding and some aspirin. Enjoy!!
Very Happy

re: Skiing or Boarding?

Skateboarding and snowboarding have zero in relationship. In skateboarding you lean back and in on a turn and to steer the "trucks" connected to your wheels. Snowboarding you utilize ONLY your edges |b| for control. If you lose either your center of gravity on the board or catch an edge on the snow at a non vertical angle to the snow, you're on your ass, face or even both; for sure. When you begin boarding, I recommend the first day practicing all day balancing on these two edges (Heel & ...

When you begin boarding, I recommend the first day practicing all day balancing on these two edges (Heel & Toe). Later, how well you go down the mountain will depend on the transition between these two edges.

Honestly, I skateboarded since I was six, surfed since I was eleven, and occasionally wakeboarded when a boat was availible. And I would say wakeboarding would come closest considering when that when I caught an edge, I hit face first into the water (hard).
The only relationship to skateboarding I found would be that powerslide to you heel to stop. That's it.

However, if you do decide to try out snowboarding find:
1. padding for your ass that focuses on protecting your tail bone specifically. (they should sell these at a ski shop locally. if the store doesn't have it, that store sucks and find another store to shop. If you can't find it in a shop, find it on ebay or google for "Crash Pads) online.... And like your passport, don't go to Bulgaria with out it!!!!)
2. wrist guards (never take these off... ever)
3. a helmut (doesn't protect for whiplash but does for that visual "deep space" effect when you hit the ground)
4. Knee pads (because being on your knees is not always a good thing.)
5. Check to see if you have item number 1 again.

Kind Regards
-Dale
