Hi everybody Smile
Please, we would like to spend a week in Bansko and I would like to know how much does the skipass costs and if you know about some nice and clean and cheap hotels or appartements. WE means 6-8 people Smile
This is strange - Bulgaria is supposed to be cheap and yet skiing there seems to be as expensive in Austria. I have just come back from Voralberg in Austria where skiing, lifts, facilities, food and the overall quality of everything are unquestionably superior in all respects and yet it seems to me that it cost me no more than it would have cost me if I went skiing to Bulgaria.
By way of comparison:
- skipass - €160 for 7 days in Austria, €140 for 6 days in Bulgaria;

By way of comparison:
- skipass - €160 for 7 days in Austria, €140 for 6 days in Bulgaria;
- flights - around €276 return for a 3.5-hour flight London Heathrow/Gatwick to Sofia, €110 return for an 1.5-hour flight Stansted to Friedrichshafen (from where a shuttle immediately takes you in 1-1.5 hours to Voralberg, at the cost of around €50 return). I am not sure how much it costs to travel from Sofia to Bansko but I think it takes at least 2.5-3 hours to get there;
- 3* hotel HB in Austria cost me around €60/day; I believe this works out cheaper compared to the cheapest package you would get for a 4* or even a 3* hotel in Bulgaria (Bulgarian 4* equals international 3*) and at least I know the hotel roof will not fall on my head, as it happened last year in a hotel in Pamporovo;
Correct me if I am wrong but Bulgaria looks like a big rip-off!
I run a fully catered ski chalet and charge £34 (49 euro)per person per night (not peak weeks) and the only thing we don't have that the 4* do is a swimming pool and gym.
What we do offer is good quality food to european standards and a very personal service.
What you haven't taken into account in the cost of your holiday is the cost of food on the mountain and going out locally.

You also need to take into account spending money when looking at overall costs of a holiday!!
