We are non-smokers and love to breathe deeply when we sit in a restaurant. But there are no non-smoking-mehanas in Bansko, are there?Toby

If you go to the Pirin Golf Country club golf clubhouse they ask you smoking or non smoking.Aside from that they do not have no smoking from my experiance.

Last March I opened the hotel bedroom window for a little fresh air, couldn't believe the smoke from all the wood fires drifting in, love Bansko but feel sorry for the fresh air breathers out there, the smoke hangs like a Victorian smog over the town.

No. And worse, if you sit in the no smoking section and light a cigarette the waiter will bring an ashtray. Roll on June 2010 when it'll be banned....re: Smoking in mehanas
I don't see the bulgarians upholding any ban. It's a country where most people smoke and having lived under a communist regime in the not so distant past they don't take to being dictated to. Understandable.re: Smoking in mehanas
If rural parts of Spain can't be bothered upholding the smoking ban, what hope is there for Bulgaria
