Im thinking of booking a week in pamporovo from the 27th december 2007 for 10 days what are the chances of half decent snow. I am presuming that this year is a normal winter and not like last year a disaster.
Any comments greatly appreciated.
Last year was bad, but the prediction is lots of snow this year, but another sorce tells me, Bulgaria has had a hot summer so don't rely on it, 27th Dec is a bit early, but then it never had snow on new years eve, this has not happened since records began, surely this can't be the same again, pamps is good for learning and familys, borovetts is good for drinking and alike, as bansko is for that true Boarder or skier, choose wisely what you actually want to do, also Bansko has snow cannons
"pamps is good for learning and familys, borovetts is good for drinking and alike, and bansko is for that true Boarder or skier, choose wisely what you actually want to do"
that is the best way I have heard bulgaria summed up. Well said.
The amount of threads that ask questions about which resort is best for there needs. Terry has just put it in a nut shell
I would say Pamp is for learners and families only high base resort so maybe chance to walk on snow during your holiday but very limited skiing I am afraid ,
Bansko for drinking and the likes, being a town with low altitude with pavements and streets and the ski runs too well prepared and boring
and Boro for the actual skiing ,boarding nice scenery and genuine ski feel amongst the pine tree forest with much better chance of
staying in a white with snow place.
So choose wisely
Echo smags post, Terry spot on, Pamps is ideal for beginners.
We could do with a few more Cannons in Pamps though!!!!
Its the million dollar question I'm afraid Lloyd, Watch out for Hornsters posts nearer the date, Last season he was spot on with his forecasts. Its in the hands of the snow god (not you PP)
Bumski
Although years previous to last have been OK in December, I would never risk it again.
Last year was a wash-out and as much as I love Bulgaria I love my skiing more. It's Austia in Jan for me - the Borovets for the first time ever in March.
I'm with you PP i.e. I love my skiing more than I love whatever country I happen to be in, therefore, the wife and I are off to Japan (powder heaven - honestly!!) for the first two weeks of February and perhaps Bansko in March if the snow conditions and forecasts look good.
It's not so much about having faith and more about being realistic and accepting the fact that skiing in December almost anywhere these dasy is a massive gamble. However, if December is the only time that someone can go skiing and if money is a bit tight meaning that the holiday has to get booked way in advance then my advice would be to save as much money as possible and book somewhere further afield that is known to have decent snow conditions during December. Otherwise, it could end up ...

Otherwise, it could end up being a non-starter with regards to skiing!
