This part only goes to Blagoevgrad. The next section is from Blagoevgrad to Simitli but that will be a while away yet as have quiet a few long tunnels to do.

The construction of the A1/A2/A3 link road will eventually allow us to bypass the South ringroad, this construction is continuing although not at the pace of the E79(A3)... there are no projections that i can find as to the proposed completion, but looking at their progress it will be at least a couple of years... It is a fact that this new section to Blagoevgrad is a real benefit in terms of time and comfort, the next section to Simitli involves the construction of 5 tunnels, and is proposed to take 2 years to complete.. it could be wagered that this may coincide with the completion of the link above Sofia Very Happy Time will tell... at least the new road is tangible, unlike talk of new airports and gondolas ;-)

Again good news, things slowly moving in the right direction .

I fo one actually like the drive from Sofia to Bansko , but then I do enjoy driving in varied conditions .

Part of a holiday is getting to your destination, and we often vary it , taking in the beautiful sites that Bulgaria offers.

Ive only done it once, so interested on comment from steve or wendy. But i think it is better to go off at first blagoevgrad turn off ? I went as far as you can and the last bit seems to be an unfinished blagoevgrad bypass, that you can omly leave and come back on the old road at metros?

re:Sofia to Bansko highway progress?

It goes to Blagoevgrad. Simitli is next stage but that could be a while away as they have big tunnels to make through that part.

North circular is said to be end of 2016 and does have an exit for airport on the plans. Will see.

Road in Sofia closed about 3weeks after opening due to subsidence as another part was opened since you went back. But think it is all open again now.

re:Sofia to Bansko highway progress?

after a few transfers now it seems average time is around 2hrs15mins. It can be done during night in 2hrs. It is the hold up in sofia getting through traffic in and out that holds things up not the new motorway....... Dont expect to be in resort in 1hr30 like people have been saying.
