Ski Speed Cameras have now been located on all green and blue runs throughout Bulgaria.
This is to stop skiers and boarders skiing or boarding too fast past beginners and causing accidents.
The Minister Of Sport for Bulgaria, Mr. Vasko Malduchov stated today that this had become necessary due to the increased number of incidents last year that led to some skiers and boarders being unable to complete their
activities due to injury.
He went on to explain, the way it operates is simple. Any person who skis or boards at over 20km per hour on a blue or green run will be photographed. The photo will appear instantly at the base depot and officers will identify the culprits once they reach the bottom and confiscate their lift passes. They can pay a fine of 500 levs and retain the pass, but if caught again the fine rises to 1000 levs and the lift pass cannot be returned.
Seems harsh, but if it prevents accidents then it has to be a good thing.
