Hi all
Thankyou to the lord for his accurate report as one of the failsworth 50 and having taken the children for the first time i can give a few handy hints. On the first day make sure you tell the instructor what level the children are at and that he /she will need to sort them out at dinnertime and give them some money as long as you tell the instructor what you want them to do i.e. sort out dinner for them or that you will meet them they will be fine.To be honest some instructors are ...

Thanks M'Lord for a great report even if it has upset some people.

I won't get into the debate but I'm on your side Wink

Shame the Journalists chose your week to visit - surprised they didn't choose half term - then again they probably realised that we would mean double the cost!!

Hi M'Lord - thanks for your report - which provoked such a grand response!

I am off to Bansko (the Perun) in 5 weeks' time. 2nd time for me - having gone there the same time last year. I had some difficulties last year (mainly the 1st morning - could not find rep/lack of info) which was frustrating as it was the first time I had gone skiing with my little boy and I was concerned for his welfare but it all turned out good in the end.

Cheers

Sorry, I don't agree with that at all.

In every ski resort I've been to skis are left outside bars, cafes and restaurants on and off the mountain and theft is never a problem. The only other alternative is to return skis/boards to your accommodation, which isn't often ideal.

If its true that there is a theft problem with skis then that's really sad and very cynical.

You can leave your kids safely but avoid the kindrgarden (for kids under 7 y.o.) : they do nothing else but watching TV. We left our kids last year and they were supposed to ski everyday during two hours and they were doing nothing but wasting their time. They had a really bad time.

My advice : just pay for one day, control what's going on and talk with your kids afterwards.

There are quite long queues in front of the gondola : try to get there before 9:00. Buy your passes everyday instead of buying them for the full week : the snow is really bad now (and icy) and you may end up paying for really bad skiing conditions (which is the case at the moment -30/01/2006). Unfortunately no snow is expected for this week which means that the first week of february will be disastrous for skiing.

They are plenty of cashpoints everywhere (called Bankomat). Anyway in most of places they don't take credit cards. Exchange rates are quite bad in Bansko so try changing your money before (exch.rate : 1 british pound = 2.70 bgl and 1 Euro = 1.95 Bgl.

If you can still, better postpone your holidays to mid february or go in the Alps as the snow is really bad.

Really? The conditions are really bad? I'm arriving tomorrow for a week of snowboarding. I had heard that the conditions were pretty good with plenty of snow...

re: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Bansko 2006

I was in Borovets this week end and it was starting to be really bad. There is a bit more snow but very icy in Bansko according to some friends who were there this week end.

As you know snow from cannons isn't that great.

This year is unfortunately not as good as other years. It has snowed only twice this year (beginning of december and beginning of january). I hope that the weather will improve in February and that it will snow at the beginning of february !

re: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Bansko 2006

thanks for the advice and theft does happen in other resorts i know people who have had poles taken but not skis, possibly is a scam going and beware, as for not tell people the negatives this happens everywhere where we go to in the summer there are thefts and people rush to tell you of the latest scam as you pull up outside the appartment, i dont think its bad mouthing any one just makes you more aware and on your guard, if the only thing that gets posted is good news whats the point.
