Tiger. You have been most helpful, as has everyone who's replied to my many posts about boots!
We did not realise the boots were too wide originally it was after i'd worn them in (about 14 hours round house) and first skiid for a couple of hours at castleford that i found i was getting side to side movement only noticeable as the weight of the ski was clipped to the boot. After the volume reducers were added the problem was eliminated but then i had the new problem of foot pain.

The main thing i noticed was the cramped feeling of my little toe, only after skiing for a few hours then taking the boots off an not being able to move the toe. This is when i realised that there was pressure there as it was only slight but slight pressure over a long period of time equates to bad pain!
Here's hoping that they are sorted now (once i get my right boot back and can attempt to ski again). My shop didn't offer a third time and free guarantee but they did seem much more interested in getting it right than snow and rock up here. I can take them back every year to remould the liner if i need to and they're happy to help although did originally think it was my skiing position causing the problem until now.
I guess with that i'm part to blame with that cos when they aksed if there was any pressure i said not cos i didn't realise!
If that's Colin from Solutions 4 Feet, he is the expert on boot fitting and other foot problems. My wife has used him a number of times and he has solved her problems straight away.
Before going to him she had tried loads on so called expert boot fitters in various ski shops.
your feet probably won't hurt in hire boots (sometimes they rub a bit, but not usually to agony i've found). I bought my own boots for a more snug fit to improve my skiing and technique... as well as for comfort on my shins (hire boots sometimes cause slight bruising here, again not too painful).

It was a shame that it took my hol to reveal what i now believe to be the main problem cos i had to cut a couple of days short due to the ache. I contemplated swapping to hire boots lol!
Hopefully now they've been blown out a little around the little toe area my problems will be solved and i can enjy many hours of pain free skiing!
You should be fine, you will have a great time, it's mint!
Easy now everyone just pointing out my experiances with boots and boot fitters
At the end of the day we're all after the same result which is comfy boots.
Unfortunatly not every shop out there is after the same goal as sales and figures to some are more important...

To the point of a post on here a few weeks ago which i can't find where someone was having trouble with new boots(not rachel) had been back a couple of times coz they were bow legged or something like that when they were skiing,i suggested looking at the canting lol not that i've ever done it,he went back to the shop adjusted the canting and hey presto they were fine...
Beginners luck my point being it should not have been my suggestion..
I bought new boots at Christmas when I was in Whistler. I bought them on the last day of the holiday so have not used them yet. They were a much tighter fit than the ones I'd rented for the week but the guy who fitted them took about an hour and assured me that they are the perfect fit. He said that the boots I had been wearing must have been too big. Whilst they feel comfortable wearing around the house (as he suggested) I'm nervous in case I have problems with them when I go to Borovets on ...
I bought new boots at Christmas when I was in Whistler. I bought them on the last day of the holiday so have not used them yet. He said that the boots I had been wearing must have been too big. Whilst they feel comfortable wearing around the house (as he suggested) I'm nervous in case I have problems with them when I go to Borovets on the 16th. Is there anywhere in borovets where I might get help with them if they do hurt and need some more tweeking?
Not sure about boro but my instructor had a look at mine when i was out there so ask them, if they cannot do anything they may be able to recommend somewhere.. Unfortunatley i discovered the probs with mine after skiing in them. Hopefully it won't be the same for you and they will be a perfect fit.
guys there are boot sales people and boot fitters, the difference is a true boot fitter needs not only to understand the shapes [lasts] of all the boots out there but they need to understand the biomechanics of skiing and that of the foot and ankle
Rach, basd on what you said felt movement side to side, added volume reducer then had pressure i would thing that the boot you have is possibly wrong for your foot [again without seeing the whole thing it is impossible to say] sounds like they ...

Rach, basd on what you said felt movement side to side, added volume reducer then had pressure i would thing that the boot you have is possibly wrong for your foot [again without seeing the whole thing it is impossible to say] sounds like they have gone up a size and becaue of that the foot is moving due to excessive volume, add volume reducer and all feels good other than the presssure on the lateral border...do you have a moulded footbed, if so try taking it out and seeing if it feels better, if it does then it could well be the problem or the foot may be being stopped from compensating for something else going on...
sorry for the long post
the thing with boots is that comfort is inversely proportionate to performance..... have as much comfort as you like but performance goes out the window...have race type performance but be prepared to suffer some discomfort...... there is a fine line where they meet..you just got to trust the guy helping you to find it
Amen to that colin.I always suffered with footpain in my boots and the boot fitter suggested i go down half a size coz the mold of the 2 sizes were the same, the smaller boot had more shin padding,a little uncomforable when walking but as long as they are not tightened up then fine, like slippers when skiing which for me was the important thing..
