Tipping Instructors+

How much is enough/ reasonable to tip Ski instructor?
I read a comment that an instructor threw back a 'small' tip
Are tips normally expected in Hotels too?
Agaim what's reasonable?

re: Tipping Instructors+

some years there has been nearly 10 -12 people in a group if each person gave 10-20 lev that is a nice tip but what we do is put what we can in an envelope and people give what they want. no need to tip hotels unless you want to depends on service

re: Tipping Instructors+

WE have given 10-20 lev each time to the instructor, when in a group of 0, is a nice tip, always been apreciated. I have stayed in the Iglika and when we have our nights in the bar we get table service and a tab, so we just add another 10-20 lev on top of that when we pay. The staff always seem happy to see us back there the following night.

10 to 20 levs is a good average depending on how well you thought the instructor treated you. Last year as a personal gesture I had the reception staff write a thank you message on the envelope in Bulgarian - hopefully they wrote what I asked them, anyway the instructor seemed pleased.
While we were on the slopes our instructor accepted a few sips of whiskey from the hip flasks so we bought him a bottle as a gift as well.

Tipping the porters when they carry you bags to your room is a normal practice 5 to 10 levs so make sure you have some small notes when you get your holiday money from the bureau de change.

Borobob - when in a group of 0 any value of tip = NOTHING but i guess you meant 10 or 20. Sorry to harp on about accuracy of postings but remember other nationalities also read these and we don't want them thinking the British are a few stotinki short of a lev do we !

re: Tipping Instructors+

What we have done in the past is to give our Instructor £10 each when we recieve our certs at the end of the week. I find as a coach driver that if the group puts in I end up with less tips. These Instrutors have worked very hard for us during our weeks ski, so I think that after paying good money for our holiday £10 each is not out of the way. Cheers have a safe ski Wink

re: Tipping Instructors+

on the first day if you have no small bulgarian notes tip the porter £1 english they save them up and change them for £10 notes and then change into Lev..

A good tip is to tip the maid on the first few days (once you establish he/she is going to be your maid all week, you may as well get the thankyou smile all week than just on the morning you are leaving. Very Happy

re: Tipping Instructors+

Tip according to how well you feel the ski instructor improved your skiing, his/her advice on what restaurants, pubs and general advice he/she gave you. However, always keep in mind how little they get paid for the amoun tof hours they have to put in. I would suggest a minimum of £10.
